Over 100 Ruger Pistols Stolen From Chicago Train Yard

It appears that over 100 Ruger pistols were stolen from a Chicago train yard by gangs in a one-time heist. Apparently, this is becoming a large problem in a city that prides itself on its strict gun control measures with over 150 firearms reported stolen from Chicago train yards since 2013. City leadership seems rather clueless about the root cause of the problem, one alderwomen was quoted as saying “How in the world are these kids getting these guns? I see them on Facebook. Everybody got guns. They can’t go purchase a gun, so where are they getting them from?”

A project called SALT- A Safe Gun for a Safe Home has been started on Indiegogo already has over $12,500 raised in just 17 hours. Essentially it is a project aimed at introducing a non lethal solution into a home defense scenario, so no matter who breaks into your house (or while concealed carrying), there is no way you’ll be able to kill the aggressor. The inventors of this product believe that a compressed packet of salt and whatever other magical mixture is included, has the ability to halt and temporarily incapacitate an aggressive intruder or attacker, possibly with the intent on not only stealing, but also physically harming and/or killing the intruder.

Interview of Bob Stasch, Chicago PD Veteran Of 14 Gunfights

Here is a 52 minute interview with Chicago PD Lieutenant Bob Stasch. He has been in 14 gunfights. There are some very interesting things in his recollection. His second story is of particular interest for me. Many people have a false faith in “stopping power”. Having read a few LEO examples it seems that there is a possibility that people have a stronger will to survive beyond rational belief. I tell customers at work, that people will surprise you. They can defy physics and rationality and Bob Stasch’s example is a good one.

The Washington Post has a fascinating short expose into the training of Navy doctors who are using Chicago-area hospitals for trauma experience. Due to the high violent crime rate, Navy doctors and nurses are put into rotation and gain exposure to gunshots, knife wounds, and other serious injuries.
