When a .308 Cartridge is Chambered in a .25-06 Rifle
In the capital of Scotland, we find Edinburgh Rifles and Sporting Goods, a registered firearms dealer offering a full range of new and used firearms, ammunition, reloading components, optics and accessories. Like any gun dealer they get their share of “customer experiences” and today you’re going to see what can happen if chamber a .308 Win cartridge into .25-06 rifle. The saying is that you learn from your errors. I prefer to keep learning from doing things right over and over, but accidents happen.
LFD Research Films the Firing of .300 Blackout in a .223/5.56 Chamber
The Internet is full of images of destroyed 5.56/223 AR-15 rifles that were accidentally loaded with a .300 Blackout round. It is not the best idea to try to push a .30 caliber bullet through a .22 caliber bore, is it? Of course, in the majority of cases, these are accidents that result in completely ruined firearms and even injuries to the shooters. In order to see what happens with the rifle in such a situation, LFD Research simulated it by chambering a .300 Blackout round into a 5.56 AR-15 and filming it in slow motion. Let’s watch their video.
Another Blown Up .40 S&W, This Time A Beretta M96A1
Just the other day, I posted about the Glock 35 that blew up. Which was originally posted by Cowboy Guns on their Facebook Page. Well they just reported of another pistol that blew up, a Beretta M96A1.
Glock 35 Exploded
Cowboy Guns posted this on their Facebook Page. Their buddy had a squib in his KKM barrel. According to Cowboy Guns, Glock will fix the gun for $225 and KKM will replace the barrel. Not sure if this was with reloads or factory ammo. However it is very nice that Glock and KKM are willing to help out the owner. Pretty interesting malfunction. As you can see the pressure took the path of least resistance. It blew the barrel up and through the port in the slide.
POTD: .300BLK AR Banana Peeled
I have not seen destruction of an AR upper receiver like this before. The left side of the upper receiver has been peeled open almost like a banana peel. Marky of Tactical Tshirts condemns the cartridge because it is too easy to mix up ammo and have a catastrophic failure.
A Cautionary Tale: Loading .300blk Into 5.56 AR
Baraka of MASF shared this with me. A MASF member, Carlos Santillan shared an experience of a catastrophic failure. Thankfully no one was hurt. Carlos wants others to learn from his and other’s mistakes.
Guns that Go Boom… Badly
Wide Open Spaces has collected an impressive amount of photos of various catastrophic detonations in firearms. While most of them would likely have left the shooter stunned, there are a few that I would hazard caused some damage to both the gun and the shooter.
How Well Does Direct Impingement Handle Heat?
DI is usually identified as the weak link in the AR-15 system when it comes to sustained fully automatic fire. How vulnerable is that system to fully automatic fire? That’s a good question, but fortunately we have a few resources with which to examine it.
