#CanCannon

For those familiar with X Products, you’ll know that they come out with a combination of innovative, useful and fun products for the firearms industry. X Products was at SHOT 2020 showing off their pressurized and unpressurized flamethrowers, drum magazines, their famous Can Cannon. New this year is the X Products Fore, an AR-15 Compatible golf ball launcher.

X Products is known for their can cannon and their drum magazines. This year at Shot Show, they have come out with a 69rd 9mm drum for use with Glock pattern magazine fed firearms. They have also made a drum for CZ Scorpions.

How do you take an already awesomely fun product and make it better? By supercharging it with .308, of course. X Products has just announced a battle rifle caliber version of their Can Cannon – a blank firing upper receiver that can launch soda cans, t-shirts and more. Why, you ask? Because life is too short to not have a bit of pure fun. The Multi Use Launcher or M.U.L. retails at $499 and is compatible with any .308 patterned AR lower.

In a promising turn of events, the recently controversial AR15 upper receiver, aluminium soda can firing “Can Cannon” made by X products, has now been declared fit for market sale again by the ATF. All existing Can Cannons that are currently in private ownership (I’ve heard about several thousand) have to be converted to the new configuration which doesn’t allow the chambering of a live 5.56x45mm round, which was the problem that ATF had beforehand, because in essence the previous Can Cannons were short barreled rifles. Although they had been designed with the intent of only shooting 5.56x45mm blank cartridges, one could load a live round in there and fire it. The accuracy of it would probably be completely off, and the fact that the handguard is the size of a fire extinguisher would make it quite difficult to conceal, but in the ATFs all seeing eyes, this was none other than an SBR. The new modifications include a sort of metal bar that doesn’t allow the chambering of a live round.

The Can Cannon by X Products is not a product you need. It’s a product you want. And that’s OK. It’s a super fun product that brings a great dynamic to the shooting community.

I had the pleasure to shoot the Can Cannon, a new fun product from the folks at X Products. It’s a modified AR-15 upper that allows you to shoot 12 oz soda cans using .223 blanks. The pressure in the chamber propels a single can way past 100 yards.

X-Products has been busy making the rounds with their soon to be in production Can Cannon. The cannon has now received ATF approval as a non-destructive device. It will use military-standard blanks through a short ported barrel to avoid damage to the cans.

As a direct results of the positive response from the prototype, X-Products has confirmed on their Facebook page that the Can Cannon will be headed to production. Posted on July 4th, X-Products stated that they are needing ATF approval and will have pre-orders online in “about a week.”
