3D Printed CARBON FIBER Suppressor to Be Introduced by Middlebranch Machine

Canton Ohio custom gunmaker Middlebranch Machine has released a teaser image of a new kind of suppressor, which they say is made of “carbon fiber composite” construction. Unlike previous efforts at making carbon fiber suppressors, Middlebranch Machine’s design does not seem to use a straight carbon-fiber tubing body, but appears to be 3D printed, instead. This is strongly suggested by the background of the image which shows a customized Glock with a unique looking suppressor in front of what is probably a Markforged Mark Two carbon fiber 3D printer. Mark Twos are some of the only carbon fiber 3D printing machines in the world.

American Suppressor Association (ASA) Public Statement on the Las Vegas Incident

With the recent appalling and horrific event that occurred in Las Vegas many aspects of the firearms industry have come under fire. Whether it is bump stocks or items that were never even utilized during the Las Vegas event, much of our industry has received an unnecessary, negative limelight. This includes silencers. Unfortunately, certain factions of the media cannot discern the difference between a flash hider, a silencer and one not being present at all. Finally, the American Suppressor Association (ASA), after a long period of silence, has made a public statement.

DEREGULATION OF SUPPRESSORS: New "SHUSH" Act Introduced to House and Senate

Could the complete deregulation of silencers (also called “suppressors”) be near? That’s the goal of a new bill introduced simultaneously to the House and Senate, which seeks to invalidate the provisions pertaining to silencers of the National Firearms Act, entirely. The bill, called the SHUSH (Silencers Help Us Save Hearing) Act, would nullify the NFA’s requirements for silencer registration via two modifications: First, by making anyone seeking to purchase a silencer (who is otherwise acting within the law) automatically meet the NFA’s requirements; and second, by invalidating all state regulations regarding silencers. Further, these changes would retroactively apply to all silencer transfers more recent than October 22, 2015.

New Industry Standard for Measuring Suppressor Blowback to Be Introduced By ARDEC [NDIA 2017]

At the 2017 National Defense Industry Association’s annual Armament Systems Forum in April, representatives of the US Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC) presented a new method for measuring and quantifying gas blowback with suppressed firearms. The testing was conducted in the service of creating a new standard test procedure for gas blowback, for the Army, NATO, and the industry. Importantly, the test procedure involved mounting air inlets in locations corresponding to the shooter’s face when firing the rifle, which gives accurate measurements for what quantity of toxic gases reach the shooter’s face during operation.

Review: SilencerCo Omega .30 Cal Suppressor

Since picking up my FFL and SOT, I have fallen in love with suppressors and shoot with them as often as I can. Unfortunately, most competition shooting (outside PRS) does not allow the use of suppressors, often labeling them as “unfair” accessories due to their recoil reduction. However, its the same reason (coupled with shooting without hearing protection) that makes them such a critical accessory, to the point that I do not build a weapon system without the provision for a can.

Wilson Combat Releases "Whisper" Titanium Suppressor

Wilson Combat continues its rapid expansion away from its 1911 roots, this time with another entry into the suppressor market. The new “Whisper” suppressor series is oriented for those who detest the weight on the front of their gun. Using “corrosion proof” titanium, Wilson Combat manages to get the Whisper down to 17.8 ounces (for reference, the lightweight SilencerCo Omega we reviewed is 14 ounces in direct thread configuration).
