Today is the National Moon Day! 53 years ago, on July 20, 1969, the Lunar Module Eagle of Apollo 11 spaceflight landed on the surface of Earth’s only natural satellite. A little over six hours after the landing (which was already July 21st UTC),  Neil Armstrong, the commander of Apollo 11, stepped on the surface of the Moon. Indeed, it was one small step for a man but one giant leap for mankind. In today’s Photo Of The Day, we are taking a look at the Cabot Moonshot 1911, a custom pistol dedicated to this important event in the history of the human race.

Cabot Guns OAK Custom Collection consists of one-of-a-kind 1911 pistols that look more like art museum exhibits. These guns represent a combination of the most amazing design ideas, rarest materials, and most complicated manufacturing and finishing techniques that thanks to the skills of Cabot designers and master gunsmiths become unique masterpieces. Today, we’ll take a look at the latest member of the Cabot OAK Custom family – the Blue Scorpion pistol.

Cabot Guns has released the remake of their SOB “Son of Relic” pistol that was introduced last year. One of the most unique features of SOB pistols is the incredibly beautiful sepia color of the finish that makes them look like guns from a vintage photo. Each of the two grip options of SOB 2.0 pistol, Hawaiian mango wood or mammoth ivory, also gives this gun a different but equally fascinating appearance.

Cabot Guns keeps pushing the boundaries of what is possible to do with firearms and in particular with the 1911 pistol in terms of materials and engravings. What they have accomplished with their Dragon Fire project is something beyond fine engraving. This pistol is more like a sculpture, a work of functional art which when placed on its oil painting display background merges with the latter and becomes a part of the dragon depicted in the painting. Cabot Guns call this composition a redefinition of art.

Ah, the SHOT Show lower level dungeon.  It can be a place of darkness and despair, filled with the noxious fumes of B.O. and burnt food court fare.  In this maelstrom, however are hidden gems.  Gleaming like a beacon through this gloom was the display of Cabot Guns and Alchemy Custom Weaponry.  Made with such materials as fossilized mammoth tusk, tyrannosaurus rex bones, and the occasional meteorite and with prices starting in the $2000’s and up to “if you have to ask…”, I view these less as firearms and more as art pieces you can shoot.

Cabot Guns has announced that for 2020 they are launching a special project called Gun of the Month. The idea behind this program is to release a custom 1911 every month of the next year. These will be limited edition guns with only 20 of each month gun to be made. Each of the dozen Gun Of The Month 1911s is different from others in terms of used materials and finishes, sizes and configurations, small design details and calibers. Let’s take a look at all 12 guns of this 2020 collection and see how the company describes them.

Cabot Guns has announced that their new NERO pistol is now available for preorder. According to Cabot, their customers have been asking for a tactical 1911 but making one was not in their plans until recently. The eight months of designing works led to the creation of NERO. As the company notes, for the first time ever they have added two new ingredients to the accuracy, fit and finish of their pistols – speed and superior ergonomics.

Today we are taking a look at another artwork from the OAK Custom collection of Cabot Guns called Diablo Damascus. The OAK Collection includes the company’s top-grade one of a kind bespoke pistols. These are Cabot’s most exclusive, rare and unique 1911s. For example, the  Big Bang Set of pistols that are almost completely  made of a meteorite are OAK Collection handguns. Earlier we also took a look at another gem from this collection called “ Le Nouveau”.

Cabot Guns, the renowned custom 1911 maker, has shown another work of art from their OAK Collection of 1911 pistols. This richly engraved gun is called  Le Nouveau after the style of art, Art Nouveau, which motifs are used in the engraving pattern.

Hopefully, everyone has made it through Thanksgiving, had a delightful self-induced food coma, and re-emerged with renewed vigor for firearms and Christmas wish lists at the ready! Some can have an entry point of $1,000 while others you may need quite a bit more coin than that to take them for a spin. Recently TFB was able to sit down with Rob from Cabot Arms and conduct an in-depth interview about the odd meteorite 1911 pair that they created, but also more about the founding the company itself. Nick C. was also present during this interview and was instrumental in asking questions. Some of the photos shown here are not of the pair of meteorite 1911s, but instead of the Time Traveler 1911, which used material from the same metorite that Cabot bought for the meteorite 1911.

Cabot Guns has released another masterpiece for 2018 called The Icon. Its elegance is in its incredible simplicity. The Icon has no slide serrations and no markings on the slide which combined with the smooth grip and the beautiful grey color make this gun a magnificently beautiful sample of the iconic American handgun.

Cabot, most famous for crafting a matching pair of 1911s from a meteorite has released a press release detailing the company’s acquisition and future production of Alchemy Custom Weaponry, a small but specialized handcrafted 1911 manufacturer. Alchemy Custom Weaponry was started and still currently has Rob Schauland as the head manager of the company he started in Illinois in 2011. Through the merger, he now heads up Cabot’s manufacturing facility in Fort Wayne, Indiana. From the press release-

Last week, Miles V and I got a chance to check out Cabot Guns. They are only 40 minutes from my house. Nestled in a corner of the Penn United Technologies building across the street from the Lernerville Speedway is a treasure trove of high end 1911s made of some really exotic materials.

For 1911 fans, one of the major attractions of the 2016 National Rifle Association’s Annual Meeting was Cabot Guns’ unveiling of a matched left/right set of fine custom 1911 pistols made from a hunk of meteorite that fell to Earth from outer space.
