1911 in .380 Auto from Browning

John Browning’s namesake company is expanding its handgun offerings to include a .380 1911. While other designs have been inspired by the platform (the Sig comes to mind), none have yet to use full-size mechanical interfaces (safety, slide catch, etc. The .380 version features the same 85% frame common to .22LR versions.

Gun Review: Schroeder Bauman "American Defender" 1911

Schroeder Bauman impressed me after my factory tour. Their knowledge, service, and dedication to craft was laudable. Now with a pistol in hand and plenty of ammo, I headed out to the range.  Was the American Defender good enough to turn a proclaimed “not-1911” guy into a fan?

Browning AB3 Rifle

Browning has introduced the AB3 to their rifle at the 2014 SHOT Show.  The AB3 is described by Browning as a “value-packaged” rifle.  Despite its lower price point the AB3 is designed to be a contender for accuracy, features, style, and comfort.  This is not what I would consider a “bargain” rifle in the meaning of lower quality parts and materials for the entry level shooter.  Instead, I would place the AB3 in the category of many competitors‘ mid-range rifle selections; such as the Remington 783, the Savage Model 111, or the Mossberg ATR line.

Peat: What isn't it good for?

Peat was used by the Vikings to make swords and cannon balls by the American revolutionaries. Today it is used by the Scots to make Whisky, the Irish to heat their homes and the Fins to make electricity. It is well know that peat is an excellent preserver of ancient Europeans bodies, but it turns out it is also a great preserver of firearms. The wreckage of a WWII Splitfire was recovered from a peat bog, along with its six well preserved Browning M1919 machine guns.

More on the Leupold CQBSS M2 Browning Mount

Jason sent me another photo of the Leupold CQBSS M2 Browning Mount. Some of those who commented on my previous post about it were, as I was before, skeptical of the utility of a sniper scope on a heavy machine gun. The armchair Commandant in me thinks that the Corps’ plan is to enable troops to accuracy engage targets at a much longer range than they are presently able to do so.
