Legislative Updates – Follow The American Suppressor Association On YouTube
While we don’t engage in partisan discussions here at TFB, keeping up with legislative, regulatory, and legal issues is important for the health of the firearms industry. In the past few months, several important legal and policy decisions have shaped the way gun ownership is categorized in the United States. In my opinion, one of the most misunderstood and misrepresented aspects of our industry is firearms categorized under the National Firearms Act (NFA) of 1934. This law, and subsequent additions, create barriers to ownership by implementing tax penalties, registration, and months of application wait times for firearms like suppressors and short barrel rifles. The American Suppressor Association is working to change public opinions on silencers and shape policy and legislation on NFA items. Follow the ASA on YouTube.
Support The Team: ASA Silent Night Raffle For Big Prizes
The American Suppressor Association is the only organization that is dedicated to protecting and advancing silencer ownership in America. Through education and legislative support, the ASA has helped to legalize suppressor ownership and enabled the use of suppressors while hunting in several states. Obviously, this is a cause that is important to me personally; I believe that every gun owner should own at least one suppressor (three is better). Support the cause by participating in the ASA Silent Night Raffle and have a chance at winning some great prizes donated by great companies. Don’t wait, the contest ends on 12/16/2021 at 11:59PM EST.
ASA: National Hearing Conservation Association Supports Suppressors
It seems like a no brainer – devices that protect shooters and bystanders ear’s should be considered health safety devices. And now you have some official proof to reference the next time a skeptic looks at you sideways. Two weeks ago, the National Hearing Conservation (NHCA) sent a letter to the American Suppressor Association (ASA) supporting the use of firearm suppressors to mitigate hearing damage. Sounds like it’s time to buy another silencer.
American Suppressor Association Industry Forum
It’s hard to talk about the National Firearms Act (NFA) and not feel frustrated and angry. Not only are we constrained by arbitrary rules, regulations and laws, but we also have to pay a tax and wait a long time to take ownership of suppressors, short barreled firearms and other weapons classified under the NFA. So, while we strive and yearn for deregulation, we also look for ways to improve the process we are forced to use if we want regulated items. Last week, the American Suppressor Association hosted their second annual industry forum where the topic of modernizing the NFA process and current wait times was presented to government officials.
[NRA 2019] American Suppressor Association (ASA) Media Shoot
The American Suppressor Association hosted a special media shoot before the start of NRA 2019 to help display and show off some of the industry’s best and upcoming silencers! We at TFB were very grateful and fortunate enough to have been extended an invitation and gladly came to see everything that was on display.
American Suppressor Association (ASA) Public Statement on the Las Vegas Incident
With the recent appalling and horrific event that occurred in Las Vegas many aspects of the firearms industry have come under fire. Whether it is bump stocks or items that were never even utilized during the Las Vegas event, much of our industry has received an unnecessary, negative limelight. This includes silencers. Unfortunately, certain factions of the media cannot discern the difference between a flash hider, a silencer and one not being present at all. Finally, the American Suppressor Association (ASA), after a long period of silence, has made a public statement.
Odds the HPA Passes Anytime Soon?… The Likelihood is Beginning to Improve!
The Hearing Protection Act (HPA) is one of those things lingering in the back of every firearm owners mind. While all of us would obviously love to see it pass you will not see any of us holding our breath. That sentiment may soon change as some very positive movement was recently made on the HPA.
Hunting With Suppressors – Bridging The Divide Between Traditional And Tactical Shooters
We have a huge problem in this country that has us all on edge. An issue that separates citizens into two distinct groups, laden with emotions that are deep rooted in a history of distrust and anger. No, not THAT issue – I’m talking about Tactical Shooters versus Traditional Sportsman.
"Suppressor Export Act" of 2016
The American Suppressor Association (ASA) is always fighting hard for our rights with everything related to silencers. This past Friday, April 29th they helped get another bill from pen to paper which will help silencer manufacturers in overseas sales.
ASA: Hearing Protection Act (Suppressors For All)
The American Suppressor Association (ASA) has been working with Congressman Rep. Matt Salmon and the NRA. Last week, they have introduced a piece of legislation called the Hearing Protection Act (HPA). ASA, NRA, and Salmon are trying to remove suppressors from the purview of the NFA and replacing it with a standard NICS check and eliminate the $200 tax stamp. By having suppressors ownership go thru a NICS background check, only lawful citizens can purchase them. This will only apply to the states where suppressors are legal. Sorry California, NY, and all the other states that do not allow suppressors. But it is good news for the rest of us.
