Athlon Optics MIDAS CF40 tripod is built for heavy rifles and hard use.  The largest member of the MIDAS lineup, the CF40 features 10-layer carbon fiber legs designed to support up to 88 pounds.  As someone who enjoys heavy rifles and tripod shooting, I was keen to see just how good this tripod from Athlon was after a month of hard use.

Choosing the right bipod and having a perfect height set just before a stage is quite often the key to success in a competition. One bipod isn’t enough to do everything you’re likely to require from it over a few stages. Shooting practical rifle and precision rifle competitions (in my case mainly IPSC, PRS and hybrids between these) for more than 10 years has “given” me quite a collection of bipods. I have stayed away from the “cheap and risky” ones, but there are a few from B&T Industries, Magpul and Harris to chose from at home. Some I have modified to suit my needs better. I even have one set with what used to be ski poles that can be used to shoot standing.

Over the years I have seen several pictures of rifles on tripods, and finally, the temptation grew to get my own system. With some money to burn, I still wanted to keep the budget fairly low. I also wanted something light, so I decided to look for solutions made in carbon fiber. The tripod I was looking for was going to be used for cameras, spotting scopes and rifles. The choice fell on the INNOREL RT90C, which I bought from the INNOREL Official store on Amazon. The price was roughly $300.

The market for chassis systems keeps on growing. I can understand why, as I can’t remember the last time I saw an un-modified rifle at a Precision Rifle Competition. If you own a Remington 700, a Savage or a Tikka T3 the new Generation of the TAC21 chassis from MDT may be of interest.

It’s a strange coincidence that as I was browsing the Internet to find a new handguard for my Ruger Precision Rifle Gen 1 I was thinking why on Earth are there no products with a dovetail ARCA interface?
