Garmin made some real shockwaves when it introduced the Xero C1 Pro Chronograph. It fits the advanced technology of a radar chronograph into a handy little pocket-sized tool with a simple setup and operation. Let’s see if it lives up to the hype.

While various applications have arisen to replace the boxy times used in competition shooting, they offer no ability to analyze the shooting, specifically, the average cadence of the rounds shot. While timers can show specific splits, looking at it longitudinally can be difficult so one is only seeing a small window of the bigger results picture.

Silencer Shop has just announced the availability of their new App in both the Google Play and Apple App Stores. Designed to be used in conjunction with the Secure Identity Document (S.I.D.) Kiosks found at participating dealers, the App currently has a few basic functions – taking standard passport photographs, reviewing personal information and providing assistance finding Silencer Shop’s ‘Powered-By’ dealers in your local AOR (Area Of Responsibility).

If you like knowing more about the ballistics of your ammunition, Federal Premium Ammunition has a new app that should fit your gun-loving expectations. The new app covers everything from ballistics to making recommendations regarding loads and even directs you to where you can buy them. It works on Apple and Android smart phones and tablets, so odds are you have a device it’ll work on. Users can purchase the new app on Google Play or through the iTunes store.

Carry Alerts is a new iPhone app that runs in the background and will alert you when you are near a local, state or federal gun free zone as well as reminding you to do what you need to do when you get close to an international border. The app is designed with conceal carry holders in mind who want to avoid inadvertently breaking the law.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation have published a free app called Where To Shoot that locates shooting ranges near you in the US and Canada.  It is is available for  iOS and  Android.

As a gunsmith I sometimes find myself squinting at poorly scanned schematics of rare guns. Stumped halfway through a project, I scratch my head trying to figure out how the doohickey is held in place by the whatsit and what the doohickey’s function actually is in there. That’s probably why I think the free Gun Disassembly 2 app from Noble Empire is so cool. Available for iPhone, Android, Macs and PCs, the program is a wealth of knowledge about what is inside your favorite gun and how it actually works.

The developers of the Real Strike, an “3D Augmented Reality FPS Gun App”, sent us an email asking to have their app reviewed. I was intrigued so I paid the $2.99 it cost and downloaded the app. The app displays video from the iPhone/iPod/iPad rear camera and superimposes video game style guns. It was pretty nifty, for about two minutes. I had expected an app with the words “3D”, “Augmented Reality” and “FPS” to actually allow me to interact with an augmented reality like, for example, shoot virtual targets.
