The Finnish and Swedish Defense Forces will purchase a range of various rifles from Sako Ltd. TFB reported about this almost two years ago, but it’s now official what the framework and the firearms will look like.
POTD: Sniper Competition – K4 Arctic Rangers vs Finland
TFB’s Photo Of The Day is where you can discover the world of firearms through a camera lens. Every day we run a new theme, selected pictures a short story and credit to the person behind the lens. Today we have images from the Swedish Norrland Dragoon Regiment, also known as K4. This is a Swedish Army unit specialized in arctic warfare and special operations. Located in the province of Lappland, it was historically a cavalry unit that traces its origins back to the 17th century. This time there were competitors from the Finnish Kainuu Brigade (see above).
POTD: Swedish Platoon 1990
In our Photo Of The Day, we go back in time. This photo was taken on October 13, 1990, some 32 years ago. We have a collection of firearms used by the Swedish Army at the time – some are still going strong – like the Ak4 (H&K G3), Grg m/48 (Carl Gustaf recoilless rifle 84 mm), Ksp m/58 (FN MAG) all gathered around an off-road vehicle Tgb 20. The Swedish platoon soldiers in the picture all have the green Uniform m/59. Note that most of the Ak4s have bayonets mounted and that one has a riflescope (made by Hensoldt possibly, to make an Ak4 DMR version). It was around this time the new Ak5 (FN FNC) was introduced to units.
POTD: Swedish Home Guard with Ak4 and PSG90 B
Photo Of The Day and we have more great pictures of the Swedish Home Guard and U.S. Army Green Berets as they trained together in November last year. The Swedish Heckler & Koch G3 clone called Ak4 is easy to spot, with the Aimpoint CS red dot sights and upgrades from Spuhr. Did you also notice the PSG90 B Sniper Rifle on his back, the AI AW? If not, look again.
POTD: Swedish Airborne Rangers with Ak4D by Spuhr
Photo Of The Day: Today we have an excellent photo of the Swedish Ak4D, which is an upgraded Ak4B with a stock and handguard from Spuhr Ltd. As you may know, these upgrade kits can be bought if you own a G3 or a clone. The sight is an Aimpoint CompM5 (called RPS 18) and most likely a 3x Aimpoint magnifier. You can also see the B&T Atlas bipods. It’s interesting to see how many different configurations this oldtimer from Heckler & Koch comes in.
Sweden And Finland To Work Together To Procure New Service Rifle
At the end of a long press release about the news that Sweden is buying 200 tracked vehicles ( BAE Systems/Hagglunds 410) someone hid this little gem about Sweden and Finland collaborating on a service rifle (machine-translated and edited):
POTD: U.S. Special Forces with Swedish Ak 4B Rifles
In today’s Photo Of The Day, we take a look at the main firearm of the Swedish Home Guard (National Security Forces) in the hands of a U.S. Special Forces Group member. He uses the Swedish Ak 4B during FID training (Foreign Internal Defense) with the Swedish Home Guard late last year.
Spuhr gets new AK4C order from the Swedish Armed Forces
Spuhr in Sweden just released the news that they got a large H&K MP5 upgrade order from the German Bundespolizei. Just a few days later it is time for another positive announcement.
