Rifle Dynamics introduced the Quickhatch pistol at the beginning of the past year and until now it was available chambered in 7.62x39mm only. Well, the company has just announced that a version of the Quickhatch chambered in 5.45x39mm is now available too. Let’s take a closer look.

As time has rolled on from the heydays of AK ownership in the US (the mid to late ’80s and the mid-2000s), something that has always been around, whether in the back of a sportsman’s catalog, Gun Rags, or your favorite firearm accessory website, you can find AK recoil buffers for sale. Touted as a solution to the violent recoil (let me just roll my eyes for a moment … there, that’s out of the way) of the AK rifle, as well as its apparent tendency to beat itself to death due to over gassing.  The droves of people new to the AK scene might not know what these are or if they actually work.

Quickhatch, another name for a wolverine, is how the new AK pistol by Rifle Dynamics called. Inspired by the Krinkov, the Rifle Dynamics Quickhatch adds modern features to the original concept and is chambered in 7.62×39 which I’d say is a better cartridge for a weapon of this size. Let’s take a closer look.

Through distributors like Arms of America and Atlantic Firearms, WBP of Poland has been sending high-quality AK pattern rifles and pistols to the US for several years now. The latest of which is the Mini Jack 5.56 Pistol. This short AKM style pistol is chambered in the ever-popular 5.56x45mm cartridge and offers an alternative AK pistol for those who want a gun that takes standard furniture and accessories.

Palmetto State Armory, as in the past, quietly added a new Kalashnikov to their already eclectic lineup of popular AKM style rifles and pistols. This time it’s the Palmetto State Armory AK-105. Chambered in 5.45x39mm and featuring a 4.5mm rear folding trunnion, short (12.5in/317.5mm) barrel, and polymer folding stock. This is coming only a few months after they introduced the 7.62x39mm AK-104 which features the same length barrel and folding stock. As of the time of writing only the rifle version with extended muzzle booster, and brace-equipped pistol are live on the website but Palmetto State Armory is sure to introduce all of the same rifle and pistol configurations that are available for the AK-104.

To commemorate their 2021 Red Oktober Kalashnikov Championship match, Rifle Dynamics will be releasing a limited edition 2021 Red Oktober pistol. They are only making ten of these limited edition pistols.

About a year ago, YouTuber Garand Thumb published a video review of a custom Rifle Dynamics AK pistol built to his specifications which he called “the best AK ever built“. Apparently, the AK featured in the video generated enough interest to make Rifle Dynamics offer it as a custom, Garand Thumb edition of their RD 704 pistol. Let’s see what features this gun packs.

New to the United States AK market are  Zastava Arms two new ZPAP M92 pistol variants.  With both fixed and side-folding SB Tactical braces, I was curious how these two Krinkov style pistols would preform.  Lucky for me, Zastava was kind enough to send both new variants of the ZPAPM92 over for review.

Palmetto State Armory have introduced a new 9x19mm AK pistol. The AK-V is based on the Vityaz-SN 9mm AK-based submachine gun. The new AK-V feeds from PSA’s CZ Scorpion style 35 round magazines and comes in three packages: with a railed forened, a magpul M-LOK forend and a traditional forend. All three have SBA3 adjustable braces with a folding stock option coming soon.
