Today we’ll take a look at a new limited edition custom Smith & Wesson revolver which is a tribute to America’s oldest state law enforcement agency,  Texas Rangers, who are celebrating their 200th anniversary. Created in collaboration with Davidson’s, the Smith & Wesson Texas Rangers bicentennial commemorative revolver is an N-Frame six-shooter embellished with engravings and gold inlaid markings and insignia.

Welcome back to Wheelgun Wednesday, TFB’s weekly article series where we talk about everything revolver-related. Today we’ll take a look at the German  Korth Super Sport GTS revolver that is now available stateside through Nighthawk Custom. Previously, there were three Super Sport revolvers (STX, ALX, ULX) in the company’s catalog that differed from each other by the design and materials of the barrel shroud side rails which resulted in different overall weights of these revolvers. The Super Sport GTS has no side rails and its weight can be adjusted by attaching weight bars to the barrel housing. Apparently, the Super Sport GTS is the successor of the STX, ALX and ULX as currently it’s the only Super Sport revolver both on the Nighthawk Custom’s and Korth’s websites.

If you’re a fan of the 1994 film Maverick or similar films involving high-stakes gambling and gun fights, you’ll no doubt be familiar with derringer pistols. Derringer pistols are small, very compact, pocket-sized pistols that don’t exactly fit into any other category of firearms like revolvers, pocket pistols, and the like. Unlike mini-revolvers or centerfire pocket semi-auto pistols, derringers are typically chambered in much larger straight-walled cartridges like 357 Magnum, .38 Special, and .45 Long Colt. Up until going through this review, I had not had very much experience with derringer-style pistols but Bond Arms was kind enough to lend me one of their Roughneck derringers, as well as a spare barrel chambered in 9mm so that I could get a feel for the experience and explore what these pistols have to offer concealed carriers.

Two new load offerings have just been introduced by Federal Ammunition in the personal defense category including new HST 357 Magnum and 327 Federal Magnum. Both calibers have been popular choices for those who still choose to field a revolver for self-defense. Both new offerings will feature nickel-plated cases, specially engineered 104-grain, and 154-grain hollow point bullets, as well as high-performance primers for more consistent ignition. These new HST offerings join the ranks of other proven and popular self-defense loadings from federal including a 9mm Luger, 45 ACP, and the new 30 Super Carry.

The .357 Magnum caliber has earned a reputation as a man stopper. In the N64 Goldeneye, it was even capable of shooting through walls. Take that, General Ourumov! This reputation is well-deserved. The caliber has been on the hips of police and civilians for decades. Now, Federal Premium has added it to its HST line of Personal Defense ammunition. New for 2022, this is Federal HST .357 Magnum.

In recent years, Colt has brought back several legendary pieces from their Snake Line of double-action revolvers, now a new hatchling is added to the family: the short-barrel Colt Python. With the addition of this more CCW-oriented option, the Phyton is now offered in 3 barrel lengths, all in stainless-steel finish.

The Korth NXS eight-shot revolver isn’t exactly new, we’ve already covered the model following it, but the NXS is Korth’s first eight-shot wheelgun. While the NX series isn’t the most traditional-looking, it has numerous features compared to its predecessors. The NXS is chambered for .357 Magnum and cut to accept moon clips, and is also convertible to 9mm, with barrel length options of four or six inches.

Smith & Wesson has introduced a new concealed carry K-Frame revolver – the Performance Center Model 19 Carry Comp. Based on the classic design of the Model 19, the Model 19 Carry Comp sports a whole new set of features and a shortened and ported 2.5″ barrel to make this classic more suitable for concealed carry duty.

Derringer pistols are a discrete way of packing heat no matter the occasion. Other than that, derringer-style pistols have also become somewhat of a conversation piece and Bond Arms is featuring their PT2A to show their support for the 2nd Amendment. The pistol will feature a stainless steel barrel, trigger guard, and frame as well as a BAD premium leather driving holster.
