Almost a year after announcing a new series of bolt-action rifles, Colt is growing the lineup with the new CBX Tac Hunter. The new series of CBX bolt-action rifles debuted in January of 2023, and as we told you then, these rifles are directly related to the CZ 600 action. No surprise there, since CZ now owns Colt. Back then, the CBX Precision rifle system paired the CZ 600 action with an MDT chassis, available in either .308 Winchester or 6.5 Creedmoor for your precision shooting pleasure.

SIG SAUER first introduced their CROSS rifle in 2020. The original AICS-fed CROSS bolt-action is available in .308 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmoor, and .277 Fury with either a 16″ or 18″ barrel length. Since releasing the original, SIG has also come out with a PRS model which takes the barrel length up to 24″. Now they’ve announced a new addition to the series, called the CROSS STX. This newest model takes a middle ground in terms of barrel length, measuring 20″, and offers some other differentiating features such as a full-length 20 MOA top Picatinny rail and an SLH/SLX suppressor-ready QD flash hider. In this episode of TFBTV Show Time, James Reeves is at EnforceTac in Germany to speak with Steyr about the new Steyr DMR. The Steyr DMR is, obviously, a designated marksman rifle with incredible statistics: It weighs less than 7 pounds, can be chambered in .308, 6.5 Creedmoor, or .277 FURY/6.8x51mm AND it will shoot sub MOA, according to Steyr. In this episode of TFBTV, Hop takes a look at one of the lightest, most compact .308 ARs on the market: the Ruger SFAR. The SFAR or Small Frame Autoloading Rifle isn’t an AR-10 or LR-308 pattern rifle, but rather an AR-15 size rifle chambered in .308 Winchester. The 16″ barrel version of the SFAR reviewed for this video weighs in at under 7 lbs out of the box. Like most Rugers, it’s also very affordable, already available for well under the $1229 MSRP.

Judging by the amount of new AR-10 pattern firearms released by American companies lately, I think it is safe to say that this is currently one of the most booming market segments in the industry. Joining the many other AR-10 style rifles and pistols introduced this year is the new Trojan Firearms TROY rifle available in .308 Winchester and 6.5 Creedmoor chamberings. Let’s take a closer look.

Faxon Firearms has just announced the introduction of two new rifles to their Summit Sentinel lineup of AR-10 pattern firearms. The new Faxon Sentinel rifles are chambered in .308 Winchester and 6.5 Creedmoor. Both new rifles will retail for just under $2,000 and come standard with billet aluminum receivers, heavy fluted barrels, Faxon M-LOK handguards, and ambidextrous controls.

Expanding their MSR (Modern Sporting Rifle) line of AR-pattern rifles, Fierce Firearms has released the F-10 Sidewinder, an AR-10 style rifle, the bigger brother of their F-15 Sidewinder 5.56/223 AR. The company markets this new product to both hunters and tactical shooters “who require an extremely accurate, lightweight rifle that provides quick follow-up shots“. During a recent trip to Texas, I got my hands on one of the new Brushline Pro series optics from Crimson Trace.  Our staff had access to a variety of these optics, and I ended up with the 4-16×50 BDC.  Designed with the hunter in mind, I mounted this scope atop a RISE Armament 1121XR chambered in 308 and headed out to the range at Mellon Creek Outfitters.

Mission First Tactical is in the business of making affordable AR-15 accessories and they’ve recently released a new set of magazines specifically designed for the 7.62×51 NATO cartridge. The new MFG Extreme Duty Magazines are now available for use with SAAMI-spec 7.62×51 and .308 Winchester ammunition. The new magazines will be made available in both black and flat dark earth and according to Mission First Tactical, these magazines were made in cooperation with Frank DeSomma from Patriot Ordnance Factory and as such, these magazines are dedicated to his memory.

True Velocity first showed composite-cased .308 Winchester ammunition intended for the civilian market at the SHOT Show 2020. Recently, the company released a limited run of commemorative box sets of this ammunition. And shortly after that, they announced that their .308 Win composite-cased ammo is now available commercially.

Dark Storm Industries (DSI) has introduced a new family of rifles called DS-25 Typhoon that has been in development for six years. Although these rifles are chambered in .308 Winchester, they are not quite AR-10 pattern guns but rather a hybrid of the AR-10 and AR-15 utilizing as many AR-15 parts as possible to decrease the overall weight. The result is a .308 rifle that weighs 6 lbs 11 oz in the configuration with a 16″ barrel.

Today, March 8th, 2021 is an exciting excuse to go over one of the most popular and widely used cartridges in North America. The .308 Winchester cartridge designed all the way back in 1952. This admirable 30 caliber cartridge is a regular choice whether it is used for medium- to big-game hunting or even a cartridge variation found in a NATO group’s backstock of ammunition. Rock River Arms is well known for their quality AR-15 rifles, but they’ve just announced a brand new precision bolt action rifle, the RBG-1S series. RRA actually ran a soft launch of the RBG-1S at SHOT Show 2019 but took their time to hone it. Early examples featured a fluted barrel, but that was one of the things that were refined on the final product. RRA states that the RBG rifle action is a proprietary short action receiver, fitted with a stainless steel, threaded barrel with varying length options and uses AICS pattern magazines.

Springfield Armory can craft and produce a lot of high-quality firearm platforms, but bolt-action rifles was never on that list… until now. Today they have debuted their Model 2020 Waypoint bolt-action rifle that boasts a bevy of premium features and looks to contend with a lot of the premium long-range, hunting rifles currently on the market. The Model 2020 Waypoint is not a softball attempt at a bolt gun, but authentically appears to be a premium product. All of the specifications can be read below as presented by Springfield Armory:

In December of last year, TFB first reported on a forthcoming new bolt-action rifle from SIG Sauer, the Cross. SIG gave us a better look at this bolt gun at SHOT 2020, and TFB TV got their hands on one as well. With an initial offering of three calibers and two finish options, SIG let us know at that time that they were shooting for a summer 2020 release date. They positioned this new offering as a hybrid between traditional hunting rifles and modern, lightweight precision rifles. They also emphasized the similarities, particularly with regard to controls, with the AR-15 platform. The idea with these was to provide an easier, more seamless transition from one of the world’s most commonly-used firearms, with which so many shooters are already familiar and comfortable. After months of waiting, this hotly-anticipated rifle is finally on the way to dealers and end users. In an August 6th press release, SIG has announced that it is shipping now.
