I know some of you fellow AK lovers out there are already saying that. But in a world of Russian ammo bans, and uncertainty as far as other imports go given current events, the idea of an AK in a very common cartridge here in the USA is a very tempting and practical proposition. The Palmetto State Armory PSAK-101 and 102 are just such guns and with their introduction they are adding more competition to what was originally a very limited amount of 5.56 offerings from Zastava, WBP, and Arsenal USA.

Winchester has expanded their Defender line of ammunition by introducing a new 5.56x45mm load, 20 and 12 gauge buckshot loads and by adding the .350 Legend cartridge to this defensive ammo family. Let’s take a quick look at each of the new Winchester Defender ammunition offerings.

The rumor that Geco Ammunition (Germany) was about to release a low(er)-priced .223 Remington round has been around for a while, and their new DTX line has now been released. The new Geco DTX ammunition line also includes 9x19mm and .308 Winchester, so most high-volume sports shooters are covered.

The clever engineers at Armanov in Slovenia have a new product which should interest reloaders of rifle ammunition.

Federal Premium has been acquiring a lot of ammunition contracts throughout 2018 of notable size and prominence. The most recent contract being one for a staggering $75 Million with the United States Department of Homeland Security (US DHS). The Press Release from Federal Premium ammunition can be read below detailing it further:

Savage Arms has cemented a pretty long legacy of producing quality barrels and actions, but just recently began to dabble in the AR-15 platform. That began with the MSR-15 (Modern Savage Rifle) a few years ago. That entry into the world of AR-15s has evolved into several caliber offerings and variations. Now they are trying to attack that market even harder with a much more expensive and discerning rifle in the MSR-15 Competition!

Federal Premium is always looking for new categories, calibers or cartridges to provide shooters with more ammunition. Not every new introduction has to be a reinvention of the wheel though. Sometimes just keeping up with what’s hot can be a difficult enough task by itself. What’s hot right now is absolutely 6.5 Creedmoor, the darling caliber for long-range shooters; .224 Valkyrie, which has screamed onto the scene as fast as the cartridge itself; and .223 Remington which may never fall out of favor because of the popularity of modern sporting rifles. All of these calibers are given some love through the American Eagle line-up of ammo with some new grain weight offerings.

Legacy Sports International, the US importer of Howa rifles, has a new firearm for the precision minded hunter. Howa is glad to introduce their newest offering to shooters with the H-S Precision rifle.

The Springfield Armory SAINT has found considerable attention and buyers in what is a very soft modern sporting rifle market. First, introduced with a Keymod forearm. Then, offered with a free-float M-LOK handguard as to not ignore the M-LOK fan base. Last, but not least they developed a new variation with a Survivor System stock to be legal in the near foreign country that is California.

As you may have heard, Taurus USA introduced a new AR platform rifle recently. The new gun, called the T4SA, appears to be a quality rifle based on the specs and information released by the company. When it starts shipping later this year, and the gun gets into the hands of shooters, we will find out if the T4SA is as good as it seems.

SIG SAUER announced the company added a third cartridge to its growing line of HT hunting ammunition. The load? The .223 Remington. This cartridge joins the .308 Win and 300 BLK cartridges.
