TFB Armorer's Bench: Chiappa 1887 Disassembly/Reassembly
Welcome everyone to the TFB Armorer’s Bench! As mentioned in the little blurb, this series will focus on a lot of home armorer and gunsmith activities. In this article sponsored by Wheeler, Tipton, Caldwell, and Frankford Arsenal, I happened to do a little maintenance on my Chiappa 1887 Lever Action shotgun and while disassembling and reassembling, I thought to myself that it may be beneficial if I did an Armorer’s Bench on diagnosing a light primer strike problem. That is what I did for the previous article but I made sure to mention my willingness to roll out a disassembly/reassembly article. I saw a comment that gave me the go-ahead so to speak so here we are! All that being said, let’s dive right into Chiappa 1887 Disassembly/Reassembly!
TFB Armorer's Bench: Diagnosing Light Primer Strikes – FT: Chiappa 1887
Welcome everyone to the TFB Armorer’s Bench! As mentioned in the little blurb, this series will focus on a lot of home armorer and gunsmith activities. In this article sponsored by Wheeler, Tipton, Caldwell, and Frankford Arsenal, I happened to do a little maintenance on my Chiappa 1887 Lever Action shotgun and while disassembling and reassembling, I thought to myself that it may be beneficial if I did an Armorer’s Bench on diagnosing a light primer strike problem and its many causes and fixes. All that being said, let’s dive right into Diagnosing Light Primer Strikes!
Cimarron Firearms Introduces the Legendary 1887 Lever-Action Shotgun
Mike Harvey, President of Cimmaron Firearms is excited to introduce the Winchester Model 1887 lever-action shotgun. For those who don’t know, Cimmaron Firearms is one of the leaders in manufacturing replica Old West firearms. The Model 1887 is often a symbol of the American West Frontier due to its frequent use as a hunting and self-defense shotgun (or Terminator 2 if you’re a cinephile).
Chiappa 1887 T-Series Shotgun
Lever action shotguns were not popular for a long period of time, and even John Browning suggest that Winchester opt for a pump action in lieu of a lever design. However employer trumped employee and thus the 1887 was born. The T-Series is a non-NFA reproduction of the 1887 shotgun and in this video we do a bit of shooting with it.
Why I Don't Like Lever Actions
Lever actions have become a symbol of the American West, and as Texan I am supposed to have a soft spot for them. However that is one stereotype to which I do not conform. In this episode of TFBTV, I list a few reasons why I have never held lever guns in high regard as well as the 30-30 cartridge.
Chiappa Makes Winchester 1887 Clone
Chiappa is now making a clone of the Winchester 1887 lever action shotgun. The Chiappa states the gun can handle all modern “high-pressure” 2 3/4″ shotgun ammo. It has a five shell tubular magazine and can also hold two additional shells (one in the chamber, one in the receiver) for a total of seven rounds.
Chiappa T-Series 1887 Shotgun Pistol
Recent video games such as Call of Duty renewed interest in the oversized and impractical pistol-gripped 1887 Shotgun that was originally made popular by the second Terminator movie. Chiappa is cashing in on the pistol-gripped 1887-craze with the 1887 “T-Series”. It features a rubberized pistol grip and an 18″ barrel. Because of the long barrel it is legally a shotgun not a pistol.
