    1. RUGER – Introduction/Overview

Ruger Company motto is “Arms Makers for Responsible Citizens®” and this is reflected by a wide range of products, over 600 variations of more than 40 product lines, which, across the history of the Company, have been mostly targeted to civilian sales. With some exceptions, such as the MP9, the focus of Ruger has been providing plenty of options to civilian firearm enthusiasts. Civilian models have however in several occasions found interest of Law Enforcement and Military units.

The hunting oriented portfolio has also meant that for decades the Company image, in the words of TFB Managing Editor, was “bolt action and rimfire”. However in recent years the product line was extended to include items such as Modern Sporting Rifles and suppressors, catering to an even wider market.

    2. RUGER – Products/Models

Ruger currently manufactures a wide variety of handguns and rifles, constantly adding new models or new variants of existing products. Peculiar of Ruger is also the release of dealer’s exclusive models, such as this Super Blackhawk, which generally offer dedicated solutions and finishes over catalog items.

    Ruger Revolvers

    Single Action

All Ruger Single Action revolvers are directly inspired by the ever popular Colt Single Action Army (SAA) model, which is recalled by the external appearance and layout of all models. From a mechanical perspective, however, the Ruger versions employ several modern materials and solutions compared to the original design from the 19th Century, resulting in improvements in reliability and safety. For example all models can be safely carried with a fully loaded cylinder, while the original SAA needed the hammer to be kept on an empty chamber to prevent accidental discharge.

The Ruger catalog items differ in calibers, with several choices ranging from .22 LR to the very powerful .454 Casull and .480 Ruger, and materials and frame sizes.

While fully capable as out-of-the-box items, Ruger single action models are frequently chosen by custom gunmakers as a base for their creations, in many cases leveraging the legendary strength of the frames to offer extremely powerful big bore hunting tools.
