The Agency Optic System (AOS) developed by Agency Arms was initially designed for 2011-style handguns and has slowly migrated to other platforms as well because of its growing popularity. This includes Springfield Armory’s 1911 DS Prodigy, and will now be present on 12 new 1911 AOS pistols through the Operator, Emissary, and Ronin lines as well.

Springfield Armory @ TFB:

What is the Agency Optic System (AOS)?

Developed in collaboration with Agency Arms, AOS employs a series of plates that   accommodate a wide range of the industry’s most popular red dot sights following the RMR, Shield, Delta Point Pro and Docter footprints. This flexibility allows shooters to configure their handguns according to their unique preferences for optimal performance.

All AOS-compatible handguns ship with a cover plate featuring a rear sight that matches the classic contour of the 1911’s slide. Machined from billet steel for durability and precise fitment, additional AOS plates designed for a wide range of optics are available for purchase on the Springfield Armory Store. In addition, purchasers of a 1911 AOS pistol will receive a discounted price on one AOS optic plate of their choice of just $49 — an $80 savings.

Springfield Armory Shares their Thoughts

Springfield, rightly so, is excited to bring these to market because it makes mounting your favorite micro red dot worlds easier for shooters. They share their thoughts on the new 1911 AOS pistols via their press release statement below:

Geneseo Illinois - August 2024 - Springfield Armory® is proud to announce the launch of its 1911 Agency Optic System (AOS) pistols that combine the proven capabilities of the 1911 with modern optics integration - all offered direct from the factory. With 1911 AOS, Springfield Armory melds the proven platform of the iconic 1911 with cutting-edge optics capability, delivering an unmatched level of versatility and performance.
“The 1911 is easily the most respected - and proven - pistol in history,” said Steve Kramer, Springfield Armory’s Vice President of Marketing. “With the new 1911 AOS, Springfield Armory is taking a revered 20th-century design and updating it for the 21st century with the ability to accept a wide range of today’s most advanced optics.”

Our Thoughts

At the time of launch, the 1911 AOS offerings of pistols include the 1911 Emissary, the 1911 Operator and the 1911 Ronin. All three are offered in both 9mm or .45, and also in 5” and 4.25” configurations. Of note is the fact that the new 1911 Operator 4.25” AOS — in both .45 or 9mm, and featuring a lightweight aluminum frame — is a new addition to the Operator line.

As always, let us know all of your thoughts about the Agency Optic System (AOS), these new 1911 AOS pistols via the Emissary, Operator, and Ronin handgun lineups, and Springfield Armory in the Comments below! We always appreciate your feedback.
