Hornady HIT: See Your Impact At Long Range

Hornady is all about getting you on target, whether it’s selling you factory-loaded ammo, or the components and equipment to load your own—and instructions to help you do so. But if you’re shooting at long ranges, how do you know if you’ve actually hit the target, especially if you don’t have a spotter to help? They’ve got a solution for that problem too. Enter the Hornady HIT Target Impact Indicator!

Hornady @ TFB:

Enlightening solution

The Hornady HIT Target Impact Indicator is designed to light up when you strike the steel target it’s attached to, giving you a visual indicator that’s easy to see, instead of trying to find a bullet hole in the target. According to their press release:

“Equipped with a sensitive accelerometer, the HIT Impact Indicator detects bullet vibrations for precise activation. Regardless of caliber, every shot is registered accurately. When a hit is registered, the HIT Indicator communicates impacts in style by blinking "H-I-T" in Morse code, adding an extra layer of excitement to your shooting sessions.”

So maybe that’s a bit of a complicated array of gadgetry, but it does offer a solution to a problem, even if you might think it’s convoluted.

And at least it sounds like it’s easy to use. You simply charge the HIT Indicator up with a micro-USB cord, then attach it to a target stand by an elastic band (you don’t attach it directly to the target). When you hit the target, the light is supposed to be visible beyond 1,000 yards with the naked eye.

Obviously, this solution is not made to work with paper targets, and it won’t work if you somehow manage to shoot the light itself, so try to avoid that.

Near misses are gonna get expensive.

This is going to be the gun range equivalent of "Don't hit your ball into the bunker".

At $18 a pair at least it doesn't hurt too much if you do send a round into the light. I've seen these used in some gun tuber videos and they seem to work well.
