POTD: M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle in Amphibious Assault
Photo Of The Day: Established in 2014 this is TFB’s way to show carefully selected photographs on a daily basis together with a brief story. Hopefully, you’ll learn something new and interesting. We also welcome comments in the intended section below. Today we go to Brooke’s Point, Philippines. We have U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Tyler Bradsher, a native of Foley, Mo., and a rifleman assigned to Charlie Company, Battalion Landing Team, 1/1, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), setting security with an M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle.
POTD: SIG Sauer ROMEO2 Red Dot Sight
TFB’s Photo Of The Day has become an impressive gallery, with an ever-growing number of images of firearms in all sorts of environments. Today we’re going to add a few more, on the subject of SIG SAUER’s new ROMEO2 red dot optic. Why? Because the pictures looked really good, don’t you agree?
POTD: HS Rescue by Microtech Knives
The goal with TFB’s Photo Of The Day is to give your eyes something worth watching, and your brain something to think about every day. Over the years we have shown firearms and soldiers from North to South, East to West in almost any imaginable situation and climate. Who knows what we’ll show tomorrow? Today we’re going to take a look at the new Microtech Combat Troodon HS Rescue (High Speed) knife.
POTD: HERA Arms CQR Gen 2.0
Our Photo Of The Day articles brings together some of the most eye-catching and visually appealing images. You won’t find a lot of pictures of sunsets, flowers or touristic landmarks here, instead, the photo selection spans from soldiering, firearms, special units, snipers and the odd knife or two. Today we’re looking at the new HERA Arms CQR Gen 2.0 buttstock and front grip. I don’t guarantee, that this setup would work also for restricted states.
POTD: Mk 14 Enhanced Battle Rifle
Photo Of The Day: TFB’s favorite shots (pun intended) served on a daily basis. We don’t think you have seen today’s selection before, taken on the flight deck of the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) during a live-fire exercise, in January 2022. We have an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician who fires an M14 Enhanced Battle Rifle. The rifle was originally built for use with units like the Navy SEALS and Delta Force within the United States Special Operations Command.
POTD: Custom Saiga 9×19 PCC
Our daily article Photo Of The Day will take you to some very exciting and unusual places. Today we take a look at a very custom Saiga 9mm PCC. Jelena from Russia is the owner and the brain behind the paintwork. She’s an avid competitor in IPSC and dynamic shooting. The question is why does your own 9mm PCC Carbine look so boring compared to this one?
POTD: Concamo with SG 751 SAPR and SG 553 BK .300 Blackout
Photo Of The Day and today we have SIG SAUER AG and Concamo on offer. As usual, the latter does its best to hide, but the proven SG 751 SAPR in 7.62×51 made by SIG Sauer AG (Switzerland) does its best to stand out. The second firearm is a SG 553 BK in .300 Blackout with a matching suppressor. Which one do you like best?
POTD: The Space Gun – Curtis Custom Axiom
Did you know that in 1971, it was the first time that a human being drove a vehicle somewhere other than Earth? It was the Lunar Roving Vehicle built by Boeing. I guess it’s still there if you want to test drive it. To my knowledge, the astronauts weren’t armed, but the Curtis Custom Axiom build here would be a perfect fit for the Moon Buggy.
POTD: Springfield Waypoint .308 in MDT Chassis + Vortex Razor 3-18x
Photo Of The Day: What do you think about shooting groups? Do you get stressed out or is it more like yoga? Here is a .3″ group with 3 shots at 100 yards. The rifle is a Springfield Waypoint 308, mounted in an MDT Chassis. The riflescope is a Vortex Razor 3-18x in a Spuhr mount. Rex Silentium manufactured the suppressor, and the specific model is called MG10. Bipod support from B&T Atlas.
POTD: Heckler & Koch G36C or HK243?
Photo Of The Day: We all want what we cannot have. The Heckler & Koch G36 is one of many such things for anyone enthusiastic about modern firearms. The next best thing – at least on the European market – is the Heckler & Koch HK243. Here you can see part of a project initiated by
POTD: Suppressed FN SCAR 17 with Handl Defense Lower
Photo Of The Day: When I shot the SCAR 17 for the first time I was surprised how light it was for a major caliber. According to the specifications, the weight is 8 pounds or 3.6 kg, with the 16.25″ barrel. SCAR stands for Special Operations Combat Assault Rifle. This one is upgraded with a lower from Handl Defense.
POTD: Everyone Should Have At Least One Battle Axe
Our Photo Of The Day article series brings together some of the most eye catching and visually appealing images. You won’t find a lot of pictures of sunsets, flowers or touristic landmarks here, instead, the photo selection spans from soldiering, firearms, special units, snipers and the odd knife or two. Other sharp objects are fine too, especially with the right background, and today we’re on the subject of Battle Axes. This Battle Axe is made by Halfbreed Blades from down-under, Australia. The photos are taken by the talented Sully.photo, a product and composite photographer for the firearms Industry.
POTD: Sonoran Defense Glocks
Our Photo Of The Day articles bring together some of the most eye-catching and visually appealing images. You won’t find a lot of pictures of sunsets, flowers or touristic landmarks here, instead, the photo selection spans from soldiering, firearms, special units, snipers and the odd knife or two. Today we have images of Glock pistols modified by Sonoran Defense Technologies (AZ, USA). The images are from Offensive Marketing Group.
POTD: Tracker Arms HG-105 Shotgun via Tactical Imports Corp.
Last time we had a look at Tactical Imports Corp. (Ontario, Canada) we enjoyed a Type 81 LMG. In this Photo Of The Day, we’re going bullpup AND shotgun at the same time. Here we have the HG-105 shotgun. The manufacturer is Tracker Arms and this is a Non-Restricted Firearm in Canada.
POTD: Iron Works – So You Like the Skorpion vz. 61?
Elliott Erwitt, a French-born American photographer, once said that “The whole point of taking pictures is so that you don’t have to explain things with words.” While we understand what he means, it’s not that easy. Here at TFB we like to add a story and a background – a so-called context. In our Photo Of The Day, we’re looking at dozens of brand new Škorpion vz. 61 SMGs. It’s pretty amazing to find boxes full of these legends and we thank Iron Works from Czechoslovakia for sharing these images.
POTD: Heckler & Koch MR556A1 – 10.3″ in FDE
Our readers are screaming! We haven’t seen a Heckler & Koch for so long, please post more images of them! For a photographer to stand out in this digital age, where everyone has the means to take photographs on them at all times, they need to have a strong style to cut through the noise. Jeremy Tremp’s pictures of the Heckler & Koch MR556A1 in FDE are a great example of just that, and a great contribution to TFB’s Photo Of The Day.
POTD: Shooting For Firearm Safety
The hungriest beast on this blog is our Photo Of The Day. It consumes hundreds of images every month, and it has been doing so for over 8 years. Today we’re on the subject of firearm safety, a very important subject for anyone who owns or handles firearms.
POTD: SIG Sauer P229R DAK
In our Photo Of The Day we visit the Coast Guard Base in Honolulu to take a closer look at the SIG Sauer P229R DAK pistol in action. DAK stands for Double Action Kellerman and according to Wikipedia, the Kellerman action is “a variant of traditional double-action used on certain SIG Sauer semi-automatic pistols. DAK triggers have a long stroke with 29 N (6.5 lbf) pull. However, if a user shooting under stress short-strokes the trigger by only releasing it halfway, the trigger will reset, but with a 38 N (8.5 lbf) pull. This temporary increased trigger pull is intended to prevent negligent discharges.” ( Source)
POTD: Dragunov Sniper Rifles in Sniper Frontier Belarus
Photo Of The Day and we’re reporting from the Republic of Belarus, the Brestsky training ground in fact. The first stage of the international competition Sniper Frontier has started, a competition where teams from 21 countries take part. In the individual standings, the Russian team was the first with the teams of Kyrgyzstan, Venezuela, Azerbaijan and Sri Lanka following.
POTD: Uberschweres Maschinengewehr M2
“If your pictures aren’t good enough, you’re not close enough.” That’s probably the most common mistake in photo taking, but in this case, I think the photographers did an excellent job. Just imagine the blast from what the Austrian Army calls the Überschweres Maschinengewehr M2, or üsMG M2 for short. The rest of the world calls it the Browning Machine Gun M2, in caliber .50 BMG.
POTD: Belgian Sniper with Barrett M82 Rifle
TFB’s Photo Of The Day tries to push the excellent work done by so many photographers around the World and in the firearms industry. It’s a celebration to those who go in harm’s way trying to catch those special moments for us, but also those who stay in the studio working out the perfect lighting and setting hour after hour. Armed with skills, cameras and sometimes a fair bit of editing here is where their hard work ends up.
POTD: The Mystery Beretta mod. 70/78 (1978)
Sometimes the purpose of TFB’s Photo Of The Day is to share the latest news with our readers, sometimes we present important historic events or firearms from a pre-digital age. Today’s photo is from the Beretta vaults. It’s called mod. 70/78 (1978), but we know very little about it. In fact, we know nothing. Using search engines was of little help. The rifle looks like a work of art and reminds me a little of the Swiss SIG 550. It looks like it has a built-in bipod on the front of the handguard.
POTD: U.S. Conducts Training with Senegal Armed Forces
Over a century ago there was a growing number of magazines published throughout the world. There was an increased demand for photographic illustrations for the magazines to be competetive. With time the cameras developed and became lighter, cheaper and easier to use. We all know that was only the beginning, as lenses, motor drives, electronic flash and things like auto-focus developed in the 1960s and into the digital era, with all its potential. Just imagine what the Internet has done to things like deadlines for a photographer. No more time wasted in a dark room full of chemicals, with an uncertain outcome. Fast forward to today and we have another Photo Of The Day, from a remote location in Senegal.
POTD: Ukrainian Soldiers in Combined Resolve XVI
The number of internet users worldwide will soon reach the 5-billion mark. Our world has never been so connected. Great photos can spread like wildfire, but the story and the necessary context sometimes gets left behind. But not in TFB’s Photo Of The Day, we will always accompany the images with a background and credits to the maker. Above we have a 1st Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment machine gun team that reloads their M240B machine gun during the last battle of Combined Resolve XVI. Combined Resolve XVI was a multinational training exercise conducted at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center, Hohenfels, in Germany, in December 2021.
