POTD: Dominican Republic Special Forces

TFB’s Photo Of The Day is where you can discover the world of firearms through a camera lens. Every day we run a new theme, one of a few selected pictures together with a short story and a credit to the photographer behind the lens. Today we have soldiers from the Dominican Republic Special Forces shooting the M4 Carbine rifle at targets downrange at the shooting house in Sierra Piedras, Dominican Republic. This happened a while ago, in April 2004, during unilateral training at the Joint Task Force Tradewinds 04 Multinational Training Exercise. To my knowledge, this is the first time we have soldiers from the Dominican Republic here at The Firearm Blog. We had some Belizean Sniper in Stalking Event about two years ago, which is probably the closest we get.

POTD: M110A1 CSASS – Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa

Photo Of The Day: Above we see Spc. Jacob Mink, a scout sniper assigned to 2nd Platoon, Bravo Company, 1-149th, Infantry Battalion, Task Force Red Dragon, Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa, as he provides security during Exercise WAKRI 22 near Ali Sabieh, Djibouti. He’s using the M110A1 Compact Semi-Automatic Sniper System (CSASS), which is a development from Heckler & Koch’s HK417 in 7.62×51 mm. Note the optics from SIG Sauer and the tape covering the suppressor, probably to avoid sand and dust getting into the system. The suppressor cover is from Armageddon Gear.

POTD: Slovenian Soldiers with FN F2000S

The FN F2000 is the standard issue rifle for the Slovenian Armed Forces. The Slovenians have bought a total of 14,000 rifles and their version of the rifle is called the FN F2000S. Since FN Herstal has now stopped the production of this model this seems like both the first and the last large-scale adoption of this rifle by a European and NATO member country.

POTD: The Finnish Pori Brigade in Exercise

Over a century ago there was a growing number of magazines published throughout the world. There was an increased demand for photographic illustrations for the magazines to be competitive. With time, the cameras developed and became lighter, cheaper and easier to use. We all know that was only the beginning, as lenses, motor drives, electronic flash and things like auto-focus developed in the 1960s and into the digital era, with all its potential. Just imagine what the Internet has done to things like deadlines for a photographer.
