Matthew Grenier, a military working dog handler assigned to the 378th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron, as he positions his K9 during live-fire at Prince Sultan Air Base, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, 2023. The carbine is an M4. Live-fire training with dogs helps acclimatize them to the sound of gunfire and allows them to maintain maximum effectiveness in battlefield scenarios.

Photo Of The Day and we have the British Armed Forces’ new Anti-Drone Weapon Sight on display. To battle drones, there has been an initial order of 225 SMASH sights, which will be delivered to units across the British Army by the end of this year (2023).

The Latvian National Defense Academy (NDA), also known as the Latvijas Nacionālā Aizsardzības akadēmija in Latvian, is an educational institution dedicated to providing military and security education and training in Latvia. It serves as the primary institution for the professional development and education of military officers, non-commissioned officers, and civilian personnel in the Latvian National Armed Forces.
POTD: U.S. Marines at Chemical, Biological, Radiological & Nuclear Range
The hungriest beast of them all on this blog is our Photo Of The Day. It consumes hundreds of images every month, and it has been doing so for over 9 years. Today we have U.S. Marines with Combat Logistics Battalion 6, during a Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) range. The location is Syndalen in Finland, a military training and camp area. The area is 1,900 hectares in size and currently around 210 hectares are used for military exercises. Finland’s Nyland brigade is the main user of the area and all major firing camps with infantry weapons are held here. Syndalen also has a harbor from which the brigade’s troop transport boats depart.

Above you see operators from the 20th Special Forces Group as they conduct an aerial assault mission during a training exercise near Chester Township, Michigan, in August 2022. The 20th Special Forces Group is a United States Army National Guard Special Forces unit. It is one of the two National Guard Special Forces groups and is headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama. The group’s primary mission is to provide highly trained and specialized soldiers to support U.S. national security objectives both domestically and internationally.

I really need some lever action gun in my life, and I thought this version from the Night Vision Guys did the trick. It’s the perfect example of tradition, from the Civil War to World War I when the US was a lever-gun nation, combined with a modern, digital and thermal riflescope.

POTD: Air Force Special Operations Command
The Photo Of The Day can be chosen for a variety of reasons. It may be because of its aesthetic qualities, its newsworthiness, its emotional impact, or its technical excellence. Some Photo Of The Day features have a specific theme, such as nature, architecture, or portraits. Today, the single photo above was chosen as it’s like taken out of a computer game. However, we’re looking at a special forces unit member, as he fires downrange during an exercise at Melrose Air Force Range, N.M., in November of last year. Notice the blue tips on the ammunition, typically this means it’s a short-range training round.

POTD: Ghana Armed Forces Protecting a Ship
TFB’s Photo Of The Day is all about photojournalism. Robert Capa was a Hungarian–American war photographer and photojournalist. He photographed many wars and had the motto “If your pictures aren’t good enough, you’re not close enough”. Unfortunately, this motto lead to his death as he was fatally injured in the Indochina War. These images may not be nearly as dangerous to shoot, but there’s a lot of action going on for sure. You see members of the Ghana Armed Forces onboard a boat, while teammates secure another ship. The images are from Flintlock Exercise in Volta, Ghana, from March 11, 2023.

In case you didn’t know, Silverstone is a race track in the United Kingdom. The car in the background is, of course, the Aston Martin DB5 famous from James Bond‘s Goldfinger. Mr Bond’s car came fully loaded with machine guns, tire slashers, oil jets, a rotating license plate, and an ejector seat for unwanted passengers.

Photo Of The Day is here once again. Every day we present our readers with at least one photo. The subject is always a firearm of some kind, preferably with a muzzle flash or some action around it. But we’re happy with the perfectly edited still-life photo as well. Above you see a German Soldier conduct offensive operations as part of Exercise Crystal Arrow, from Camp Adazi, Latvia. Within a few years, the Heckler & Koch G36 will be history in the German Armed Forces. It’s been in service since 1997.
