Mike spent his entire adult life riding an ambulance throughout the Southwest US. He found humor in long in-depth philosophical conversations with crack heads and other urban street survivalists.
His highest point was being invited to instruct for some “special” medics in the military. He spent almost 10 years there. A 30 year gun enthusiast, he started down the path of reloading to keep up with his desperate need of more ammo. Reloading is like medicine, you never stop learning.
He can generally be found at the local range picking the brains of the old timer, looking for brass, and banging away at gongs. He reloads everything from .32 to .45, .223 to 7 rem mag.
A BRD Gun Works LLC upper in 450 Bushmaster was sent to me for review. My best friend urged (hounded) me to make it happen. It, finally, did actually happen and I want to tell you upfront this is one of the best products I have received for review in my four and a half [Read More…]
The MDT ORYX Chassis appears to be a product that is gaining a lot of momentum. In my gunshop, I have had a couple customers mention it in conversations. Most were liking the price point and took a “wait and see” attitude. The chassis has been on the market [Read More…]
The .458 SOCOM is a member of the “thumper” family. The Thumper concept comes from the great Jeff Cooper. A larger caliber bullet out of a rifle-length barrel. When Bear Creek Arsenal offered up a review, obviously I was going to request it be one of their [Read More…]
I was recently given a drop-in trigger and asked to take a look and see if I had any thoughts. That is where the RMT Nomad and I met. The interesting thing about this trigger is the trigger shoe pivots. It both rotates and swings side to side slightly. RMT calls this [Read More…]
Elftmann triggers are pretty sweet. I got to check one out a few years ago. In fact, that was the beginning of my being a self-proclaimed trigger snob. There was no way I was going to pass up reviewing their new SOCOM trigger. I was hoping they had a [Read More…]
At the end of last year, Tom and I went to a shoot hosted by Asgard Defense and BMC Tactical. Asgard Defense was demoing their new 12 gauge semi-automatic shotgun, the Kriger, which they had promoted as one of the fastest shooting 12 gauge shotguns on the market. [Read More…]
The new Savage Impulse is crazy cool. An ambidextrous straight-pull bolt action, even you left-handed peeps can share in the fun. Straight-pull bolt action is far from new technology, in fact, it is more than a hundred years old. Savage has decided to enter the game [Read More…]
There are many suppressed rifles with permanently attached silencers on the market, but what exactly is an integrally suppressed rifle (ISR). When I think integrally suppressed, I think of the suppression system built directly into the barrel. A good example of this is [Read More…]
Happy Holidays TFB fam! Hope you are surviving this circus known as 2020 well. As the year draws to an end I am expecting my latest tax stamp to arrive. Earlier this year I was offered a screaming deal for a SIG Sauer SRD556-QD. I bought it on the spot and [Read More…]
Shadow Systems has been busy in the great state of Texas. While most in the firearms industry are just trying to keep up with demand during the chaos of 2020, Shadow Systems has managed to grow. They are still going strong and have recently made two big announcements. [Read More…]

In my last article, I spoke about leaving the castle in a scenario of complete social break down. I was pretty surprised by the overwhelming amount of positive feedback from our readers. (Thank you, BTW). If you are interested you can check it out here. I figured it [Read More…]
It is a surreal state of affairs we all live in today. Although we do all face some similar very challenging circumstances, I think we need to break our planning down to what is optimal for the job at hand. As for my SHTF weapon I needed a weapon that was concealable [Read More…]
A ROLLSIZER is a case resizer that removes any bulges that might be created by some chambers with brass expanding during firing and returns it a true concentrical state very close to original specs. It does this by passing it by a cam-like mechanism as the casing [Read More…]
Franklin Armory’s Binary Firing System upgrades your rifle and may turn it into your favorite shooter. Skeptical at first, I have become a “true believer” (in the cult-like fashion of other Franklin acolytes). I fired every single 9mm round I had, then [Read More…]
KRYK (pronounced “Crook” meaning; Raven) is a Ukrainian company making some pretty cool aftermarket options for firearms. (Check out their site here). TFB’s Doug E. has reviewed the same chassis for a Mosin, give it a read. I received the CRC 7R003 [Read More…]
Shadow Systems developed a pistol that has impressed what was a rather…..skeptical eye. The Shadow Systems MR918 has been a fun review, a review that reminded me of the challenge of remaining subjective. I took this review and started my research before the [Read More…]

TriStar Tactical Shotgun is an interesting addition to the gun world. I know many will reject it immediately for being a bullpup, and that is fine, but having had a chance to play with a 12 gauge bullpup was a welcomed exit from the gun world standard. Every time I [Read More…]

Brownells had the most announcements of anyone I visited here at SHOT SHOW. It took me most of one morning just gathering the info on their SHOT SHOW releases. They are heavy on their RETRO line, which I think is pretty cool. I am finally old enough to appreciate it. [Read More…]
