Next Generation Squad Weapons (NGSW)

You’re watching and reading TFB’s Photo Of The Day, where more and more images of the Next Generation Squad Weapons (NGSW) are starting to surface. Here we have the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Screaming Eagles, stationed in Fort Campbell training on the system.

The images are from PEO Soldier (The Army acquisition agency responsible for everything a Soldier wears or carries).

@PEOSoldier –

A @101stAASLTDIV Soldier fires the #XM7 Rifle during a Next Generation Squad Weapons (NGSW) New Equipment Training (NET) event.

Below: I know I’m repeating myself, but there’s a reason modern rifles use free-floating barrels with a handguard. The handguard is not only there to “carry” all the cool stuff like lasers, lamps and stability support systems like bipods or tripods – it’s there to protect you from using the barrel as a support, which will give you a very large point of impact shifts. It doesn’t matter what kind of sights you use, you will surely miss. So, in conclusion, please do not use your suppressor or barrel as a support.

There is a short video from the event on X, previously known as Twitter: Check here

    While seeing the soldier use the suppressor as a rest is cringeworthy it did give me an idea.

    What if you had a free float barrel in an integral suppressor? That seems like a feasible way one could use their suppressor as a rest, though at the same time you'd still need some sort of heat shield.

      @MrLM002 He may be testing to see what effect using the suppressor as a rest actually has. I figure these exercises will lead to the official manual of arms doctrine with the new gun. Someone, at some point, is going to shoot the gun that way. Maybe this guy's experiment is meant to determine how much the drill sergeant should ream the guy who decides using the suppressor as a rest is a good idea.

    Mines, Drones and Artillery are the biggest killers in the battlefield at least that is what Ukraine is showing us but remember that war is almost a stalemate at this point as neither side can blitzkrieg each other. The USA military is another beast though since we are able to do combined arms warfare. Also, wasn't the major push to get the 6.8x51 ammo in was because in Afghanistan the Taliban was using PKMs and shooting from higher altitudes down to NATO troops and the USA troops were outgunned wit the 7.62 nato round. I remember reading that but guess what, Afghanistan is done and it looks like occupation and patrol warfare is done and everything is moving to actual warfare between nations fielding all types of military equipment instead of fighting insurgents or farmers.

      @01000110 01000101 You can only manage to do "combined warfare" if you control all aspects of the battfield. The Ukraine war is introducing something the United States hasn't had to contend with for quite some time and that's contemporary air defense systems.
