Another mistake would be buying anything from Christensen arms.
Late to weigh-in, I know, but I call bs. Buy-it, run it, it's your hind-side-hide, live accordingly. Will it hold up to every-single-day range use or full-time battle? Who tf knows, the 'major brands' of 'quality guns and accessories' can let you down just as bad, but for a higher price.
I bought a cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeepazzz flip-up red-dot for my edc pistol and why? because it was the easiest/cheapest way to see if I even wanted to run a red dot on my edc. It turns out I do, but I haven't found a replacement, YET, so I run the everlivinpisss out of this one (without blushing) until I do, and if the "major brand" "quality" replacement doesn't hold up at least as good, I might not go find-&-beat those mf-rs, but they will get an ear from me in their customer service department and I will shi7-post them until I die.
Some of what the OP 'training dude' mentions sounds like plain old errors from people just throwing their shi7 together on the day they reached the training range (like they can't believe their wife agreed to let them go to the class).
Things I agree with: DO - mount your stuff correctly, get help with that if need-be or as a back-up, use loctite, know where/how/from who to get replacement hardware, and then drive it like you stole it to see what could go wrong.
