POTD: Scalarworks Kick/04 Aimpoint Micro Pattern Offset Mount

This Photo Of The Day might look like a commercial for the featured product, but that’s not the original intention. It’s just a great photo (which is very difficult to capture correctly) of what this kind of optical setup looks like for the operator. We have a Vortex riflescope (not sure exactly which one, but likely a Razor HD Gen III 1-10×24 FFP) on magnification, and an Aimpoint Micro in a Scalarworks Kick/04 offset mount.

I use a similar setup for my competition rifle (but with another scope and mounts), and I prefer using closed red dots (like the Aimpoints) over open ones because they’re more durable. I also prefer the Micro over the ACRO, since it’s better to have a round window than a square one as you tilt the rifle – but that’s just my take on things.

The Scalarworks mount is just $119 and will give you an excellent opportunity to combine magnified optics (or just on 1x), with a red dot.

Below you can see the KICK/02, which works with the Trijicon RMR.

Finally, the KICK/03 places your Aimpoint ACRO on the side. All these mounts can be either right or left-handed.

Why would you want the red dot in the way of your scope adjustments?

@Dafuuuuq Well, because if you shoot 3 gun (or need to rapidly shoot close targets quickly) you need to have a sighting system other than the multi-power scope. Traditionally, the only answer was to stack a red dot on top of the existing scope. 3 gunners came up the the idea of back up irons set at 45 degrees from the main scope so you can quickly angle the rifle and acquire a close target more quickly. This just allows for the use of a red dot rather that back up irons.

  • Dang whipper-snappers with their fancy electro optics.

Back in my day, we had to learn to shoot offset using just Irons!
