The new CBX Tac Hunter offers an MOA accuracy guarantee. (Colt)

Almost a year after announcing a new series of bolt-action rifles, Colt is growing the lineup with the new CBX Tac Hunter. The new series of CBX bolt-action rifles debuted in January of 2023, and as we told you then, these rifles are directly related to the CZ 600 action. No surprise there, since CZ now owns Colt. Back then, the CBX Precision rifle system paired the CZ 600 action with an MDT chassis, available in either .308 Winchester or 6.5 Creedmoor for your precision shooting pleasure.

Colt @ TFB:

AICS-pattern mags, so feeding the beast is easy, with extra magazines easily found. (Colt)

The new CBX Tac Hunter is chambered for the same cartridges, and it seems Colt is marketing this bolt-action as a “hybrid” rifle, combining the features of a precision shooting platform with the ergonomics and practicalities of a hunting rifle.

The Tac Hunter comes with a sporter-profile carbon steel, button-rifled barrel (20-inch for the .308, 22-inch for the 6.5). The barrel is black nitrided and ends in a 9/16-24 UNEF-threaded muzzle (with muzzle protector included). Twist rate is 1-in-10.

The CZ 600-derived action comes with a 60-degree bolt throw. It’s made to accept Remington 700-pattern mounts, with #8-40 threads. Like the CBX Precision, the CBX Tac Hunter will accept AICS-pattern magazines (a five-round mag is included). The safety is a two-position setup on the tang; the mag release is ambidextrous, so lefties aren’t entirely screwed with this platform.

Adjustable stock, adjustable trigger. (Colt)

The user can do a fair bit of tweaking to get the rifle to fit them properly. The trigger is adjustable in the 2.5-5 pound range. The polymer stock comes with three spacers, allowing the owner to adjust length-of-pull from 12.75 to 14.25 inches.

The .308 version of the CBX Tac Hunter weighs 6.9 pounds before adding ammo, a sling, a scope, or other accessories. Due to its longer barrel, the 6.5 version of the rifle weighs 7.2 pounds.

MSRP in the U.S. is $999, and you get a guarantee of MOA accuracy for that money. More details at

    An interesting rifle.

Too bad they got rid of the user swappable barrel. That was one of the coolest things about the CZ600. Also "colt" needs to bring out a CZ600 trail version as well but make it a little better.
