POTD: Snipers Training On Simulated Enemy Boats
The world is hungry for visual storytelling, and TFB’s Photo Of The Day does its best to keep the feed live. Above you see a U.S. Marine with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, as he aims at simulated enemy boats during a simulated strait transit part of Composite Training Unit Exercise (C2X), Atlantic Ocean, May 21, 2023.
The strait transit simulated the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5), Harpers Ferry-class dock landing ship USS Carter Hall (LSD 50) and San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19) coming into contact with, receiving and returning enemy fire from small boats while in formation. C2X is the last at-sea-period of the Pre-deployment Training Program for the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group.

A U.S. Marine with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit and U.S. Navy Sailors with the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group, sight in on a simulated enemy boat. I would suppose that a heavy machine gun is a lot more efficient on moving targets like this than a sniper rifle regardless of caliber.

I like that the target choice has been expanded to include small boats. We used to shoot at bags of trash dumped in the ocean and big red balloons knowns as killer tomatoes.
