Photo Of The Day – above and below you see U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Mario Barletta, a team leader assigned to Scout Sniper Platoon, 1st Battalion, 23D Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Marine Forces Reserve, as he chambers a round at Range 205, Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, California, as part of Integrated Training Exercise 4-23, June 8, 2023.
In 2018 the U.S. Marine Corps announced that the M40 sniper rifle would be replaced by the Mk 13 MOD 7. The Mk 13 in .300 Winchester Magnum increases the range up to 1,500 meters. The MK 13 rifle is made using the Accuracy International Chassis System (AICS) version 2.0, coupled to a long action Remington 700 receiver. The riflescope is from Schmidt & Bender. Note how they use the front lens cap as a sunvisor.

As the Marine Corps Reserve’s premier annual training event, ITX provides opportunities to mobilize geographically dispersed forces for a deployment; increase combat readiness and lethality; and exercise MAGTF command and control of battalions and squadrons across the full spectrum of warfare. Barletta is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
