POTD: German Armed Forces with Heckler & Koch G36
Photo Of The Day is here once again. Every day we present our readers with at least one photo. The subject is always a firearm of some kind, preferably with a muzzle flash or some action around it. But we’re happy with the perfectly edited still-life photo as well. Above you see a German Soldier conduct offensive operations as part of Exercise Crystal Arrow, from Camp Adazi, Latvia. Within a few years, the Heckler & Koch G36 will be history in the German Armed Forces. It’s been in service since 1997.
Here’s the full caption about the event:
With enemy forces crossing into the friendly Area of Operations, the Main Defensive Battle for Exercise CRYSTAL ARROW 23 has begun. Battle Group elements remain tactically engaged and with defensive positions reinforced they are prepared to defend their territory.
Exercise CRYSTAL ARROW 2023 is the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battle Group Latvia’s Combat Readiness Evaluation (CREVAL). During the operational training, the Battle Group will confirm efficiency in conducting combat manoeuvres with Allied units within the Latvian Mechanized Infantry Brigade. With over 3,000 soldiers from 13 NATO countries, Exercise CRYSTAL ARROW allows to further enhance interoperability among all participating Allied nations.
Other units that were involved in the event: NATO Force Integration Unit Latvia, Latvijas armija, Multinational Division North, Task Force Latvia and Sauszemes spēku Mehanizētā kājnieku brigāde.

Is that a German dong or are you just glad to see me?
Here in Brazil, the federal police have only used HK weapons since the 80s. The G36 and G36K are used here. Nobody likes it, many preferred to exchange for weapons seized from the crime or preferred to use the Ruger Mini14 or the FAL that was part of the police arsenal. Currently, the G36 went to the weapons reserve and all operational agents use HK 416 or 417. When you find someone using the G36, it is already an indication that they are internal agents, who do not go out on the streets but for some reason are on the street working and they're taking what's left in the armory.
