Wheelgun Wednesday: Empire KAGE for Colt Python

Do you have a Colt Python but want something to modernize and tame some of its recoil and muzzle climb? Well, Empire has made a KAGE for the Colt Python. It is a rail system and compensator for the infamous revolver.

Empire is a veteran-owned and founded company based out of San Antonio, Texas. They make a number of upgrade components for various pistols along with knuckle dusters and discreet solid-cored markers for applying pressure. What caught my attention was their Instagram post showing a Colt Python with their KAGE rail and compensator. To clarify, they are pronouncing it Ka-Gey not “Cage”. It is Japanese.

ka·ge | kage – 陰/影 (かげ) : a noun meaning ‘shade’ or ‘shadow’ in Japanese.

If you remember your G.I.Joe lore, Stormshadow’s clan was the Arashikage. Which was literally “Storm Shadow” in Japanese. Anyway, Empire’s KAGE is a top and bottom rail with a compensator.

The KAGE adds a full length top rail, compact bottom rail & Compensator securely to your New Model (mfg 2020 or after) Colt Python.

The rail and compensator are made from billet materials. I am curious how well a billet aluminum compensator works on a .357 Magnum revolver.

The KAGE is only made for newer Colt Pythons. From the few photos online, it looks like it replaces the rear sight. I think the compensator is held by the barrel bands. Look at the screenshot above. It looks like the barrel bands are segmented and integrated into the bottom rail.

Empire makes the KAGE in three different sizes to accommodate the three barrel lengths of Colt Pythons: 3″, 4.25″ and 6″. The KAGE retails for $224.99 but they are currently sold out. Check out their website for more information.
