Welcome everyone to the 188th edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only has a Fudd appeal?  Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, decided the Dale Earnhardt themed 597 was fudd crap.

At this time the original auction has ended with no bidders.  However, for those racing enthusiasts that might still be interested, the rifle has been relisted for the same price of $375.  We can only hope this NASCAR-inspired gat can find its way to a new home in the near future.

In this week’s edition of HGFC, we look at a custom Springfield SA-35 chambered in 9mm. As is tradition, this highly engraved gat is currently up for sale on GunBroker for $2,999 Starting Bid with No Reserve.

Let’s see what the Staff had to say about this week’s offering:

“On the one hand, at least they didn’t ruin a REAL Hi-Power but on the other hand, it would have looked more appropriate on a real Hi-Power.  Also, I just realized I’m generally in favor of ruining Hi-Powers. Fuck the Hi-Power.” – Hop

“If this was a vintage Hi-Power I’d buy it in a heartbeat. Then I’d mill the slide for an optic just to piss off the collectors.” -Lucas D.

“It might possibly function like a burned turd, but if so at least it will also look like a burned turd.” – Will P.

“If you feel that inside you resides an early 20th Century prison tattoo artist with horror vacui, this is your sidearm” -Giorgio O.

“Also seen as a full page advert in American Rifleman magazine, issue # 4134.” – Doug E.

For Residents of CA,CT,DE,DC,MA,NJ and NY, please check with your local laws for restrictions before ordering any ammunition and Firearms. It is your resposiblity to make sure you can have the firearm shipped to your state!!! I can not stress this enough. If you bid on the firearm you better make sure you can have it shipped there and own it. For non paying all buyers/ bidders that break that rule and make me have to relist a gun, and file a credit claim on you, you will be reported and removed from gunbroker for life AND CHARGED A 10% OF THE SALE FOR A PROCESSING FEE VIA YOU GUNBROKER CREDIT CARD FOR WASTING MY TIME. Thats how that works.  I will not tollerate NON-PAYING bidders/buyers, I simply do not have the time in my days for dealing with this stuff and its rude to not pay for an auction. An auction is a binding contract.

AK and HI will require additional shipping charges, please call for a addinal quote I will add to your final.

Recently the Hi-Power, a seemingly neglected design for various reasons, has been the subject of several reboots or revivals.  Springfield came first, and then FN relaunched it as the Hi-Power, but with no parts interchangeability with the Hi-Power.  Kinda like the H2 Hummer.  It had the Hummer name, but that’s it. This to me feels the same way and I’m left just wanting an original.

So is this Springfield SA-35 worth it for just shy of 3k?  Or are you better off saving your money for an original Hi-Power instead?  Either way and as always I leave that up to you, the readers, to decide.
