UNITY Tactical RAXIS Mount Gets Your MAWL In-Line

UNITY Tactical has released a new product, this time for the B.E. Meyers MAWL laser. UNITY Tactical’s RAXIS is an in-line mount to reposition a MAWL so the laser is no longer offset. The RAXIS is a simple off-angle rail with the right geometry.

    Lasers @ TFB:

To some, the offset laser of the MAWL is less ideal than an in-line laser. Some complain about the weight of the MAWL especially since it sits offset to your handguard top rail.

The UNITY Tactical RAXIS is offered in a rail grabber version for $125 or a QD version for $165.

At first glance, the RAXIS just seems like a 45º offset rail. but it positions the MAWL laser directly over the barrel.

Another added benefit to the RAXIS is that it keeps your firearm streamlined.

it was designed specifically for MAWL® users with a need to stow their weapon in tight spaces, such as between the seat and center console of a police car or in a helicopter cockpit.

One minor concern is the height as well as the repositioning of the onboard buttons on the MAWL. The MAWL button setup is ideal as it is low profile and does not add too much thickness to your handguard top rail. Now your thumb is pushed to the side but also this makes support side activation more difficult. You could run a small Modbutton behind the RAXIS mount so you can activate the MAWL if you had to switch shoulders and hands to shoot around a barricade. Another major concern is zeroing is more complicated. The elevation and windage adjustments are no longer parallel and perpendicular to the ground. So now when you adjust the laser’s zero, each adjustment will be diagonal.

The other concern is how tall this makes the MAWL. From the photos above, the MAWL appears to sit rather high. It might obscure the backup iron sights built into the UNITY Tactical FAST optic mount.

The RAXIS reminds me of the in-line mount for the PEQ-15. While an in-line laser is certainly more beneficial and desirable, I am not sure the compromises are worth it. People have been able to make offset lasers work well for decades. If the RAXIS is something that solves a particular problem for you, then go to their website.
