Good afternoon everyone and welcome back to TFB’s Silencer Saturday brought to you by Yankee Hill Machine, manufacturers of the new YHM Turbo T3 5.56 rifle suppressor. Last week we got a look at two of the most recognizable rifle suppressors in the last 20 years – the SureFire SOCOM556 RC2 and the SureFire SOCOM556-MINI2. This week we move from the world of fighting carbines to bolt action rifles with a review of the Silencer Central Banish Backcountry. If you hunt or prefer a lightweight ranch-style rifle, this could be your next suppressor. Let’s take a look.

The Backcountry marks my third Banish review on TFB’s Silencer Saturday. These are well made suppressors that are light, feature rich, and durable. Designed more towards the hunter and shooting sports crowds as opposed to the tactical, law enforcement, or defense industry, the Banish series of suppressors are no-nonsense and easy to maintain. While the Backcountry is not user serviceable, other models in the lineup are quick to disassemble and clean.

My main criticism of the Banish series has always been price, and that carries over to today’s review – The Backcountry is priced at $1,099 which is easily a few hundred more than I would prefer. However, the more I think about it, the Banish suppressors, and the Silencer Central buying experience, is built for a customer who new to silencers or doesn’t have the time to research every option, specification, or host compatibility concerns.

In this regard, it could be that the extra few hundred dollars is worth it for the white glove service Silencer Central provides. Believe it or not, there is still a large segment of shooters who order firearms and parts using a telephone. Yes, actually speaking to someone on the phone about which product is right for them. I myself sometimes long for the simpler times of circling interesting toys in the Sears catalog in the hopes that parents would take the hint.

Besides, Silencer Central is selling the Banish suppressors as fast as they can make them, so from a capitalistic perspective, they must be priced correctly.

With my thoughts on price out of the way, the Banish Backcountry has everything you need and nothing you don’t. The most important feature for a hunter on the move is weight. Sitting at nine ounces in ready configuration, the Banish Backcountry will be a non-event on even the longest of barrels. Secondly, this suppressor can handle everything from .223 Remington to .300 Remington Ultra Magnum. I didn’t find any barrel length restrictions in the instructions, but this is a hunting-style suppressor and I don’t envision anyone cutting a .300 RUM bolt action down to 10″. For everyone else, when in doubt, just call Silencer Central and ask them if your barrel length is acceptable for the Backcountry.

Adding the universal 1.375 x 24″ mounting threads is a big deal for the Banish Backcountry. Many shooters, especially hunters, are locked in to certain flash hider and muzzle brake ecosystems, most of which have mounts threaded for the universal hub pattern. If you like your muzzle device, you can keep your muzzle device.

Let’s take a look at the rest of the numbers.

    Shooting the Banish Backcountry

I wouldn’t call the Backcountry a “K-size” suppressor, but it’s not a full size suppressor either. I have a feeling that adding two baffles (and two more inches) would make it very competitive in the Resonator, Nomad, and Harvester EVO category. Even so, the Banish Backcountry is a solid performer with both supersonic and subsonic 300BLK ammo out of a 16” barrel. There is no first round pop, and subsonic shots have a nice, deep tone that is very pleasant on the range.

Using the 1.375” x 24 universal mount, I threaded on the YHM sRx QD adapter and mounted it on to the YHM sRx Mini Muzzle Brake. It’s a very lightweight and minimalist setup for a silencer like the Backcountry.

Pound for pound (ounce for ounce), the Silencer Central Banish Backcountry has everything you could ask for in a hunting or ranch rifle. This is a no nonsense suppressor that will make an excellent addition to your setup. And if you order one now, there’s a good chance you’ll have it before your Fall sight-in and subsequent hunting trips.

Thanks for reading. Be safe, have fun, and we’ll see you back here next weekend for another Silencer Saturday.
