TFB Podcast Roundup 74: YouTube V. Suppressors & Tropic Thunder
Welcome to TFB Podcast Roundup 74! TFBTV has long been a staple of The Firearm Blog brand, however, over the years our humble little YouTube channel has not only seen some pretty amazing growth but it’s also come under attack several times by YouTube itself. Just before right around the time SHOT Show 2023 started, YouTube started seemingly giving channel strikes. These strikes were taking place sometimes so close together that entire YouTube channels were shut down overnight with very little that their owners could do to react to the situation. One of this week’s podcasts focuses on YouTube’s inconsistent and frankly annoying procedure when it comes to moderating silencer content on their platform. If you’ve had enough of that, we’ve also got a great and light-hearted episode of The Armourer’s Bench podcast featuring one of my favorite films, Tropic Thunder. Sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s roundup of gun podcast content.

TFB Podcast Roundup 74: YouTube V. Suppressors & Tropic Thunder
This week we’re focused on YouTube’s erratic moderation of silencers. The social media giant began deleting videos and even whole channels that featured silencers, often called suppressors, from their site a few weeks back. Then, after public outcry and an inquiry from The Reload, the company reversed course. But the damage to trust many gun creators had in the platform was already done by then. Ian McCollum, who had one of his suppressor videos from Forgotten Weapons deleted, joins the podcast to talk about the ordeal. He explains how this is not the first time YouTube has targeted gun channels with unclear policies. In fact, he said he’s been dealing with these problems nearly the entire time he’s been on the platform. That’s why he’s attempted to diversify where his content is hosted over the years. He’s also taken to using alternative means for growing a sustainable income outside of YouTube in order to mitigate against the video company’s impact on his ability to make the content he and his audience love. At the same time, he said he remains on YouTube because it’s by far the largest platform out there and it’s important to go where the audience is. He also shares some insight into what he has planned for the future of Forgotten Weapons. Both the long-term vision for the company and some hints at upcoming videos. Plus, Contributing Writer Jake Fogleman and I talk about how the NRA managed to lose over a million members in just 4 years.
Dustin is joined by Jay Wilson (Director of Product Management) and Aaron Meidinger (Design Engineer) to talk about the new Faxon Bolt Action that was announced at SHOT Show 2023.
Zee, Junior and Cam go over some premier guns they saw at this year’s Shot Show. Recorded February 2nd, 2023.

In this week’s episode of TFB’s Behind the Gun Podcast, we’re back here at SHOT Show 2023 to bring you the latest from our friends and industry partners. This week Pete brings on our friend Brandon Maddox with Silencer Central to talk about the state of the company and talk shop about all things silencer! Brandon Maddox is the CEO of Silencer Central and what sets them apart from most other silencer manufacturers is their dedication to simplifying the process of purchasing a suppressor. Silencer Central streamlines your silencer purchasing experience by removing a lot of hassles and confusing forms and instead allowing you to focus on what is most important – picking the right silencer for you and your firearms. Please welcome back once again Brandon Maddox from Silencer Central!
