[SHOT 2023] Hands On with the Luth-AR MCA-22 Chassis

A few months ago Luth-AR introduced their MCA-22 chassis kit for the Ruger 10/22. At SHOT Show 2023 we got a look at the MCA-22 and Luth-AR ran us through its features. MCA stands for Modular Chassis Assembly and according to Luth-AR, the chassis is designed for plinking, Tactical 22 matches, Steel Challenge, Practical Rimfire Challenge matches, or starting out in NRL22 competitions.

Luth-AR worded with Roth Performance on the stock which is designed to accept standard profile 10/22 barrels and bull barrels with a diameter of up to .920 inches. The chassis is easy to install and made from glass-filled nylon, 6061 aluminum and steel making for a rigid platform.

The stock is ambidextrous with some good adjustability: the click adjustable cheek piece offers incremental vertical adjustments, the stock’s length of pull can extend from 11.25 inches to 15.75 inches in 0.75-inch increments and the butt pad can be raised up to 1 inch.

There are 5 M-LOK attachment points on the bottom of the stock and 1 on either side at the front of the forend. Luth-AR also provide a removable taper barrel insert to accommodate 10/22 bull barrels. All in all a solid package for breathing new life into your old 10/22.

On first impressions, the MCA-22 is a solid and rigid chassis with some impressive adjustability in terms of length of pull and cheek riser height. One downside to this adaptability is that the thumb screws, 2 of which secure the extendable section of the stock and the cheek riser, are not captive and have to be removed fully when adjusting the stock. This isn’t a major concern but having the screws captive once they’re loosened and fully extended would make adjustment in the field while out hunting or plinking a little easier. Otherwise, the MCA-22 shoulders well and the addition of QD mounts and the texturing on the pistol grip and forend are welcome features. MSRP on the MCA-22 is $189.95.
