In our earlier article on SIG Sauer’s pre-SHOT Show range day, we looked at the Next Generation Squad Weapon display and discussed the XM5 rifle’s name change to the XM-7. You might have spotted an interesting new optic in the display, that optic is the new SIG Romeo 9T.

The latest generation of SIG Sauer’s Romeo has an interesting party trick, it has two separate independently zeroed reticles. SIG have achieved this by combining two emitters into one unit. One emitter is green while the other is red.

So what sort of applications does this have? Well, if your rifle is capable of firing several different loads with differing ballistics, the Romeo 9T begins to look quite useful. If you’re running a carbine chambered in .300 Blackout you might be using both subsonic and supersonic loads. With the Romeo 9T, you can zero to both loads using the two different reticles.

The reticles can be switched between with a single button push and the brightness can rapidly be increased on both reticles with the push of a button, ideal when transitioning between varying light conditions. The brightness of the optic can be set by a pair of buttons on the left side of the housing. Another use for this system might be as simple as switching to a red reticle for use with NVGs – depending on the quality and type of your NVGs.

The first reticle is a 2 MOA red dot within a 65 MOA ring while the second is a 2 MOA green dot within a 65 MOA ring. This allows you to mentally color-code your zeroes. SIG Sauer have sought to minimise light spillage and utilised vertically orientated emitters. SIG did not offer a price point on the Romeo 9T but is targeting both military and later commercial markets. It is currently coming to the end of its development phase and is expected to be available towards the end of 2023.
