At this year’s SHOT Show, there were a number of interesting ammunition manufacturers. One of which was BioAmmo from Spain. Their ammunition is specially designed for hunters and clay shooters looking for quality cartridges with maximum efficiency in terms of speed and penetration but also minimise plastic usage. BioAmmo explain that their ‘cases and wads are made with 100% compostable and biodegradable biopolymers that do not leave toxic residues in nature.’

BioAmmo say that they have developed the first 0% polymer cartridge on the market with their biodegradable, bio-compostable and non-toxic wads and cases. They currently offer loads aimed at sport shooters and hunters with a series of tactical rounds in the works including a rubber ball round, a blank crowd control cartridge and an anti-drone round.

The Spanish company also just announced a 5-year deal with Olin Winchester LLC to exclusively distribute their bio-compostable cartridges across the US, Canada, Australia and Asia. BioAmmo say their biotechnology is the result of nearly a decade of research and their designs are patented in 52 countries.

Manuel Galatas, general director of BioAmmo, said in an announcement: “we are very pleased to have reached this agreement. Winchester is the world’s largest company in the manufacture and distribution of hunting and sports shooting cartridges. With this alliance we associate with the world leader, we access its commercial network with more than 6,200 points of sale and we ensure a high production for the next five years”.

The company began manufacturing in early 2020 and this year BioAmmo expect to produce more than 50 million of their sustainable cartridges. While Winchester will handle distribution outside of Europe, the Spanish company will continue to sell their cartridges direct to European countries including the UK, Spain, the Netherlands and Germany.

BioAmmo’s range includes a variety of loads in both 12 and 20 gauge for both hunting and sports shooting. Check out their website for a full rundown of their range – bioammo.es
