Barwarus and Frontier Armory had a few interesting upgrades for AK-pattern guns at their SHOT Show 2023 booth.

TFB has covered the Barwarus ALPHA-1 handguard previously, but this was its first appearance in public. It is a direct clone of the Zenitco version, and is completely compatible with other Zenitco accessories. It is constructed from extruded aluminum and first deliveries are expected in March of this year.

Frontier Armory also had their Oryx modernization kit on display. This upgrade package adds a railed dust cover, railed gas tube, and converts the bolt handle to a traditional AK style. Buyers can get all three as a package, or purchase only those pieces that they want. Frontier is also selling South African-made magazine couplers which use nylon straps and tensioners.

South African made Vektor mag couplers. These mag couplers are designed to keep the two mags together by applying tension with a screw on two straps running around the body of the mags.

Each set includes the following:

• 2x screw
• 2x polymer blocks
• 2x straps

These straps work with a wide variety of mags, including AR, AK, Galil steel mags etc. However, they were designed for the 35rd polymer mags made by LEW.
