TFB Podcast Roundup 68: AI Gun Detection & Home Defense Guns
Hello and welcome to TFB Podcast Roundup 68! We’re now in the home stretch for Thanksgiving 2022 – my favorite time of the year – and I’ve personally got a lot of travel lined up so that means I’ll be dipping back into my deep pocket of favorite firearms podcasts for all of my flights, drives, and layovers. Late last week I came across a classic gun YouTuber (Sootch00) who happened to find his way onto the Vickers Tactical Podcast with a crossover being done by my good buddy Clint Morgan from Classic Firearms. We’ll also be hearing from the great folks at the Vortex Nation podcast who have brought on Garand Thumb (Mike) to talk about his experience with the XM-157 Next Generation Squad Weapon, as well as some of his personal history and how he met his camera guy Micah. I’ve also gathered a handful of more topical podcasts covering concealed carry methods, types of firearms recommended by some for home defense duty, and an up-and-coming AI Technology that can identify guns being carried on people, and whether or not this is a good or a bad thing as a whole. Buckle up, strap in, sit back and relax as you slide into Thanksgiving 2022 with some good ole’ gun podcast listening.

We’re pleased to announce the second dual podcast between Vickers Tactical and Classic Firearms. We had an amazing conversation with Sootch in this episode. Let us know what you think about the conversation and who we should have next time.

Michael Jones (Garand Thumb) and his coconspirator Micah Mayfield are in the Vortex® house for a super fun conversation all about Mike’s backstory, his front story, and tons of great stuff between. We learn about Mike’s military background, how he met Micah (If you’ve seen the movie “Serendipity”, it’s like that), the evolution of his content platforms, what’s on the horizon and more. We learn about Micah as well, how airsoft is cool and other stuff. Mike even touches on his firsthand impressions of the Army’s new Next Generation Squad Weapon Fire Control Optic – the XM-157 FC (produced by Vortex). Spoiler alert, it was very flattering. Tune in or just go watch another Garand Thumb video, because that’s probably what you were doing anyway before reading this.

In today’s episode of the TFB Behind The Gun Podcast, we’ve brought on Joel from the Rock Island Auction Company. Joel has been with RIAC for close to 10 years and has a wealth of knowledge, passion, and experience in the firearm collecting world. Today Joel and I discuss some common collectible firearms types, what to look for when you start collecting, and of course some of Rock Island’s most high-profile and historically significant auctions to date and the rich history behind each piece. We’ll also dive into what fans of the Rock Island Auction Company can expect from the Upcoming Premier Auction #87 which features two fairly significant historical firearms both belonging to former US presidents. If you’re interested in starting a collection of your own, Joel also has a few tips and suggestions for where and how to get started.
If you’d like to receive a FREE copy of the December Premier Auction #87 catalog featuring hi-res photos and detail writeups on each piece, Joel is offering physical copies of the Catalog to the first ten people to go over to the Rock Island Auction Company Instagram page and leave a comment letting them know you’ve listened to the podcast and are a TFB reader! These will go fast so act quickly!
