@Beju Yeah, but if you go with the X-Five Legion you have a functioning firearm instead of an upper. You would have two pistols instead one and a half for roughly the same price. That is the fallacy of modularity. Unless you are restricted to one serial number having more functioning firearms is better than a bunch of parts.

@tdiinva You'd spend more money to get 2 complete pistols vs just adding a spare slide to your existing pistol. You can have a P320 Full plus this slide and optic for $1600 (or less) all in. An X5 Legion + regular P320F + Romeo3 Max will be an extra $6-700.

But in general, I agree on the modularity front. People think that the top half of a polymer pistol should be dramatically cheaper, but those are the more expensive components to manufacture/source. Not to mention when sales are hot or production capacity is limited, gun companies would prefer to sell complete firearms.

@Beju You spend more and have two pistols. When the P320 came out I priced out the cost of a pistol minus the FCU. It was about $70 difference. My choice was to spend the extra $70.

@tdiinva If you just want a regular duty style P320, the FCU is a terrible value. I generally leave well enough alone on carry guns to keep OEM reliability and drop safety.

That being said, SIG has been excellent at reacting to market forces since winning the M17/18 contract. They beat Glock at the 'sell low to government buyers as consumer advertising' model that Glock started.

Glock watched their pistols get customized with aftermarket parts to the point that people could slap together Gen 3 clones without a single Glock part. And Glock did nothing to profit from or support that.

SIG knows that some people are going to eff with pistols for the sake of effing with them. If you're going to add some gold colored bits, frame stippling, and slide milling to your handgun anyway, SIG is willing to sell you parts that retain OEM standards. Having personally seen an aftermarket Glock trigger that wasn't drop safe (which I'm sure wasn't the only one), I can see the appeal to that crowd.

@Beju It's reasonable. You can find Romeo3 MAXs for like $450-$500 online, and $500 for a Legion slide isn't nuts.

@erwos I'd seen Romeo3 Max/XL for that in the past, but prices for non-"demo" units are trending higher at the moment. I'd like to look through one of them; I'd like to get my Shadow 2 milled, but I'm not sure if I'd want one of those Romeo3, or just another Holosun 507C ACSS.

@Beju Romeo3 MAX/XL are way better for competition usage IMHO.
