    Photo Of The Day: When USS Carl Vinson, United States Navy’s third Nimitz-class supercarrier, was pier side in its homeport of San Diego, there was a salute to 100 Years of Aircraft Carriers at Petco Park.

    Sailors, assigned to Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), participate in the San Diego Padres Salute to 100 Years of Aircraft Carriers at Petco Park.

    The supercarrier is named after Carl Vinson, who was a Congressman from Georgia, as a gratitude for his contributions to the U.S. Navy. According to Wikipedia, the body of Osama bin Laden was buried at sea in 2011 from the deck of Carl Vinson.
