    Today we have a picture of a single-shot muzzleloading flintlock key pistol provided by Bonhams Skinner auctions. This early 19th-century discreet weapon is consigned to the Bonhams Skinner Early Militaria Collections auction which will be held on September 28, 2022, in Skinner Marlborough auction house.

    The large key with slotted bit housing a flintlock pistol mechanism just forward of the bow with exposed tumbler and mainspring on the left side, the key’s shaft forming the pistol’s c. .65 caliber barrel.
    Overall lg. 7 in.

    I wonder if this is just a firearm disguised as a key or if it was also a functional key. I see no reasons why it could not be both, although it’s pretty large for a key. At any rate, it’s an interesting piece of firearms history. Let us know what you think in the comments section.
