HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? 12 Gauge Tactical or Impractical?

Welcome everyone to the 159th Edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only has a Fudd appeal?  Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, decided the SVD-inspired M1A was fudd crap.

The seller of this firearm was displeased with his auction being featured in the series and asked that the listing images be removed from the article.  Like all articles in this series, I have no desire to draw any negative attention to this seller.

Authors Note:  This series was always intended to be entertaining and educational.  I love firearms, and here were able to look at less common or highly customized firearms.  We all have our own opinion, and this series’ aim has been to see what our readers think about firearms they can actually buy.  My hope has always been to help GunBroker sellers by increasing the visibility of their products.  Any jokes made in this series are simply jests, and it’s my sincere hope that every firearm featured in this series is able to be purchased.

In this week’s edition of HGFC, we look at a High Standard Model 10 chambered in 12 gauge. As is tradition, this bullpup shotty is currently up for sale on GunBroker for $1,150 Starting Bid or $2,000 Buy It Now.

Let’s see what the Staff had to say about this week’s offering:

“It looks like a fish” – Luke C.

“ This is what really would be in Robocop if they had Detroit’s budget” – Matt E.

    “Hot ga…rbage”. – Rusty S.

“I unironically want one of these, it’s got that funky mid70’s to early 80’s “tactical” style to it.” Tim C.

HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? 12 Gauge Tactical or Impractical?

Up for offer is a HS10A. While most definitely not particularly practical or left-handed friendly (as I’ve learned the hard way) it’s cool as hell to put a 70’s bullpup shotgun in the creak of your elbow, tearing tendon and mercury battery to blast away the baddy.

More realistically, don’t do that or put batteries in it. You’ll thank me later.

Gun is in good overall cosmetic condition and runs well. It can be a bit finicky with low-power 12G but it will run well with high power ammo (It’s designed for high brass)
Never attempted to use the flashlight as mercury poisoning is bad for your health.

If you want the coolest range toy or don’t need your right shoulder anymore, definitely look into this!

Please feel free to reach out for any extra photos/info. Thank you!

HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? 12 Gauge Tactical or Impractical?

Built from 1967-1977, the High Standard Model 10 was a police shotgun that was really ahead of its time.  With an 18-inch barrel length and 26-inch overall length, this was posed to be the go-to law enforcement shotgun for use in confined spaces.  The model pictured here is the Model 10A which features an integrated light and carry handle.  Later model 10B variants had improvements like a charging handle on the left and a flip-up front sight.

As you’d expect, being a bullpup does have its drawbacks.  As the seller indicated (and as the right-hand side of the receiver indicates) you really should not shoot this from the left shoulder.  Overall, the shotgun has a sort of early ’90s feel and looks like it’d fit right in with a P90 or FS2000.  I guess this makes it both surprising, and well, not surprising that these aren’t in production anymore.

So what’s a retro bullpup police shotgun like this worth at this point?  I think the price of this gun might be a little high, but is it worth it for the price?  As always I leave it up to you, the readers, to decide.
