POTD: Heckler & Koch G28 DMR with Terrapin X LRF

Photo Of The Day: Above you see a Heckler & Koch G28 DMR used by the sniper team from the German Bundeswehr. Note the Terrapin X Laser Range Finder, made by Safran, mounted on top of the Schmidt & Bender rifle scope. What do you think about placing an LRF in this position?

These images are from the European Best Sniper Team Competition, hosted by the Joint Multinational Readiness Center (JMRC) at the 7th Army Training Command’s Hohenfels Training Area, Germany. The area is 163 km² and has 1,345 buildings for training, 319 kilometers of road, numerous cross-country trails, and one short take-off/landing airfield. JMRC is the only Army Combat Training Center outside the continental U.S.

All we’re missing are the suppressor I think. G22A2 Sniper Rifle to the left.

An overview of the H&K G28 can be found on H&K’s website here.

For more information about the LRF, check out TFB’s review of Safran Vectronix Terrapin X Laser Rangefinder or the Terrapin X – Laser Range Finder Performance test.

What do you think about the setup?

  • Better partially installed Patrol Kit. The G28 in the pictures only features the short slim line handguard but not the slim stock and the 1-8 s&b lvpo.

BURRIS ELIMINATOR III with 1000 yd laser range find/wind on my 20" 308 and on my 24" 6.5 Creed work better. It's BUILT IN and at the push of a button, the red dot auto marks the POI. This pic shows the clutter. On tactical firearms, you do not want "clutter". Burris has a newer model with much greater range. I don't own enough land for that.
