POTD: RIMPAC – Southern California Maritime Interdiction Training
The number of internet users worldwide will soon reach the 5-billion mark. The world has never been so connected. Great photos can spread like wildfire, but the story and the necessary context sometimes gets left behind. In TFB’s Photo Of The Day we will always accompany the images with a background and credits to the maker, in this case, Lt. Matthew Stroup. Today’s photos are taken in San Diego, CA, at the RIMPAC 2018 exercise. RIMPAC stands for Rim of the Pacific.
Off the coast of Southern California, we’re looking at U.S. Coast Guard deployable specialized forces (DSF) assigned to Maritime Security Response Team – West (MSRT-W) and Royal Canadian Navy explosive ordnance disposal technicians assigned to Fleet Diving Unit Pacific.
The forces were conducting a maritime interdiction operations training in support of counter-improvised explosive device and mine warfare operations.
Twenty-five nations, 46 ships, five submarines, about 200 aircraft, and 25,000 personnel participated in RIMPAC in 2018, in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world’s largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security of the world’s oceans. RIMPAC 2018 is the 26th exercise in the series that began in 1971.
Check back tomorrow for a new bunch of articles, reviews and images.

What is that tiny little AR the guy is holding?
Camo in the boat, lingerie in the chow hall. Not sure how these fancy boys "interdict" anything other than each other!
