Low Price, High Quality, Okay Value: Stoeger STR-9C Optics Ready

by Hop

In this episode of TFBTV, Hop takes a look at the new optics-ready version of the Stoeger STR-9C. This pistol is mechanically very similar to a Glock, and like most imported Turkish pistols, it’s very well made despite the low price. The new optics-ready version uses a set of included adapter plates to mount most models of red dot sights on the market.

Why do people opt for smaller, less shootable guns? Two reasons. First few people honestly expect to have a DGU given their lifestyle and where they live. For most people the gun is a nice to have just in case. Carrying any gun is a hassle and small gun minimizes the profile and the hassle. Second reason for preferring a small light weight gun is the same reason we have an obesity problem. Too many people want to minimize their everyday physical effort. In the case of most firearms that weight saving is illusory. The weight difference between a G19 and a G48 is within the variation in your weight within a day. If you have back problems, your back doesn't care if the weight is equally distributed in your upper body or a point source on your hip which is below the stress point on most of the length of your spine.

@tdiinva I find that you can really tell the small difference in comfort when you carry while running or when you carry in less permissive environments. Even though the size and weight difference is so small, the actual comfort is very noticeable. I have to make far less belt/pant adjustments. Psychologically it's much more comfortable in a less permissive environment when I have to hike up my pants and adjust my belt less.

No eye pro bro? Come on Hop, be a good example for the kids!
Speaking of which, I've shot my kid's STR-9 some, and really like it. I don't think you can beat it for the dollar. I found the grip angle to be closer to the S&W M&P though (which I'm used to). Grip angle is one thing I dislike about Glock. Was it my imagination?
