And have them replace it with roller locking or locking bolt.

@Docduracoat Expense? These are polymer, straight blowback guns that sell for $1000+. They likely cost marginally more to manufacture (if even that) than any generic polymer striker-fire handgun. The profit margins would make H&K nod approvingly.

How would a locking system make it any better?

@Docduracoat Theoretically, less noise out of the ejection port, less bolt mass (so less recoil), and slightly more muzzle velocity with the same length barrel.

@Aono The Scorpion magazine updates may just be a business move by CZ to help ensure they continue as a go-to magazine solution for other PCC/SMG manufacturers.

CZ could potentially make more money from Scorpion magazine sales than from actual their Scorpion firearm sales.

Grand Power’s Stribog magazine fiasco is a good example of how difficult designing a new magazine system can be. Grand Power could have saved millions of dollars and potentially avoided a few years of public embarrassment if they would have designed their PCC/SMG to work with one of the legacy magazine options like CZ’s.

@HemingwaysBeard I think they've acted too late for that, at least on the US civilian market. Given that the new Evo still supports old mags, but the new mags don't work in old guns, why would other mag manufacturers (Magpul, PSA) switch to the new system? And if they don't switch, why would PCC manufacturers switch?

@int19h It's the other way around. The old mags (and aftermarket magazines) don't work in the new Scorpion 3+ without modification, but the new mags work in the old guns.

The new magazines will work with ambidextrous AR-15 style push-button mag releases in addition to the Evo’s original paddle mag release.

The new magazines will work in all existing (old) PCC/SMG’s that use scorpion mags. Going forward manufacturers can use these updated magazines if they want to utilize a push button release instead of a paddle release on any new gun designs.

@Beju Oh, so they have dumped on their own customers then? Anyone who wants to upgrade their Evo will have to re-buy all the mags?

That feels like it's even worse.

@int19h Yep, or notch their old mags, which some people have done as experiments already.

My guess on the 3+ change was for more control commonality with the Bren 2 when cross shopping Scorpions and Brens as package deals for armies.

I like CZ's handguns, but this makes me even less inclined to buy a Scorpion unless I find an astonishing deal. Even then, I thought that even the straight blowback SP9A1 was a smoother shooting PCC, and it sounds like the curved mags work well.

@Beju Heh, I got my Evo back when they went for $800 or thereabouts. Got a huge pile of mags, too, from pretty much everyone who is or was making them.

I expect that I'm not the only one, so makers of other guns that use the same mags will probably stick to the latch release and advertise compatibility with both kinds of mags...

But yeah, it does make sense for the military.

@int19h Yes, I doubt it will be that big of a deal for Magpul to make new molds for magazines with an indent for the new release.
