The Marlin Model 1895 Trapper Lever-Action is Back from Ruger

Ruger seems to be heavily focused on keeping the Marlin line of lever-action rifles alive by reintroducing the Marlin Model 1895 Trapper. The 1895 Trapper is a light, handy, and optimized hunting rifle chambered in .45-70 Government featuring a 16.17″ barrel and unique sights that are both snag-free and accurate to make for an effective hunting platform.

Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR) is pleased to announce its reintroduction of the Marlin® Model 1895 Trapper.

The Marlin 1895 Trapper was conceived by hunting and fishing guides in Alaska who needed a big-bore rifle that was short, quick-handling and optimized for hunting or protection from dangerous animals. Chambered in .45-70 Govt., this latest Marlin offering from Ruger features a 16.17″, cold hammer-forged barrel with a 1:20″ twist. The threaded barrel (11/16″-24), comes with a match-polished thread protector and will accommodate common muzzle devices.

Like the previous release of the Ruger Marlin 1895 SBL, the 1895 Trapper features a polished stainless-steel receiver and is accompanied by small nickel-plated parts to keep the look uniform and durable. New for the 1895 Trapper is the Skinner sight system which is both rugged and accurate. The Skinner sights combined with the shortened 16″ barrel should give the big game and predator hunters the accuracy and quickness they need to make the important shot.

The rifle also differs from the 1895 SBL in that instead of a grey laminate checkered stock, the Trapper model features a darker black checkered stock but still retains the new trademark Ruger/Marlin bullseye and laser engraved Marlin logo on the bottom of the stock. If the new Ruger/Marlin 1895 SBL is any indicator of how well this new lever-action is being made, then the 1895 Trapper should prove to be a welcome addition to the revived line of Marlin rifles. What are your thoughts on this new addition? Would you prefer this model or the longer-barreled and rail-equipped 1895 SBL? The new rifle will be sold for an MSRP of $1,349 but the actual price paid could vary depending on supply and demand.
