Magne-Tech Magnetic Weapon Accessory Attachment System

Magne-Tech, a Utah company, has designed a quick firearm accessory attachment system that utilizes rare earth magnets. This system consists of two parts with built-in magnets – the base mount, which must be attached to the weapon, and the detachable part, which is either attached to or built into the accessory. The Magne-Tech system is designed to be strong enough to withstand recoil and impact forces yet at the same time allow to detach the accessory by simply pulling it off of the gun.

Besides the mounting system itself, the company has also designed a family of lights called Rigel that have built-in neodymium magnets for attaching to their mounts. The Rigel II is the second and latest generation of these flashlights. It is made of aluminum and has an IP67 rating. Rigel II is powered by a single 18650 rechargeable battery and has an advertised runtime of 3.5 hours. The light has low, high and strobe modes. The overall length of the Rigel II light is 5.5″ and it weighs in at 6 oz.

Magne-Tech currently offers Rigel II light and mount combos for attaching the light to a Picatinny or M-LOK rail. There is also an option with a mount that comes with double-sided tape for using the flashlight in other applications by attaching it to helmets, walls, etc. Depending on the mounting interface choice, the Rigel II light and mount kit will cost you from $129.99 to $149.99. You can also purchase the mounts ($39.99-$49.99) and the Rigel II light ($119.99) separately.

Not to limit their customers to only using the Rigel lights, Magne-Tech also sells a mount compatible with handheld flashlights with a 1″ body diameter ($74.99). The company also offers a mounting solution for a Vortex Vortex VMX-3T magnifier and mounts for red dot sights are in development.

What do you guys think about the Magne-Tech accessory attachment system? Do you think the magnets will be strong enough to reliably hold the accessories in the applications you may need to use your firearms? We are looking forward to testing this system, so stay tuned for a TFB review!
