It is a scientific fact that the human eye is better suited for picking out the color green rather than the color red. So if that is the case, then why are most red dots, well, red? The simple fact is that red dots have a better battery life expectancy and are also more suitable for use with night vision devices. Despite all that, big optics companies like Trijicon, Holosun, and many more still choose to put out green dot sights, especially for their superior daytime visibility which is a top concern for many shooters. Viridian Weapon Technologies is proud to announce that they’ve joined the ranks of other producers of green reflex sights with their new Green Dot-Powered Viridian Reflex Sights dubbed the RFX.

Going Green – New Green Dot Powered Viridian Reflex Sights (RFX)

Eyes see green better, and we’re excited about our reflex sites powered by green dot technology,” said Viridian President and CEO, Brian Hedeen. “As with all Viridian new products, we started from scratch with the design and put features and specs into these offerings to make them standout in a crowded market.

The RFX 15

The new green dot sights will come in three different sizes each with its own unique model number that corresponds with its relative size. The smallest of the three is the RFX 15 which features a 17x24mm viewing widow, Shield footprint, and also includes a Picatinny mount adapter in the package. The RFX 25 is slightly larger and features a Docter mounting footprint and a 20x28mm viewing window. Finally, the RFX 35 features a 22×26 viewing window and the ever-popular RMR mounting footprint.

The RFX 25

Each of the green Viridian Reflex Sights will come standard with 30,000-hours of battery life on a medium setting, 8 visible and 2 night vision brightness modes, a 2-minute auto-off function with INSTANT-ON activation, and a 3-MOA green dot. Additionally, each optic comes with a rear cut-out that serves as a backup set of iron sights that should work with your pistol’s standard height front sight post. Each optic also comes with a 7-year warranty and is IPX6 rated and tested to -4°F to 130°F for all-weather performance.

The RFX 35

These initial offerings have pretty much every size of pistol covered, from new micro-compacts all the way up to full-sized handguns. If these turn out to be durable, reliable, and true to their battery life claims, I think we’ll have a new set of great options for green dot selection that are not only more visible but also much more affordable. Right now we do not know if the battery tray is located on the top, side, or bottom as there is very little information on these new sights aside from what is on the product pages.
